Among one of the many interesting sights to see at Sunset Beach. Read up on why the ship ran ashore and what type of ship it was. It's pretty interesting. The beach overlooking the wreck is nice to stop at but can be a bit crowded. You can see dolphins playing around in this area as well.

If you’re looking for a gorgeous sunset with an amazing piece of history, this is your place to be! The SS Atlantus is a concrete ship that got stuck in the sand when a storm hit in 1926. The ship broke free of its moorings and ran ground. This ship has been around for almost 100 years! Isn’t that something? Don’t recommend swimming out to it since murky water near it might become dangerous and you don’t want to end up on the wrong end! Love to sit on the beach as well and all the pelicans will pile up and sit on the ship.

Beautiful beach book ended by quaint seaside shops. Informative signage let's you know what exactly your looking at and the beach is clean, very well maintained. This was our 2nd trip here. Pretty place!

Beautiful place! You can find Cape May diamonds on the beach! Nice lunch Spot, Gift shop, Mineral Shop, and mini golfcourse! Very cute place to visit. One the road going to Sunset Beach, there is also a nature reserve with trails.

I have been visiting this site since I was about 8 years old, I'm 48 now. It's a cool sight to see and every night on the beach from memorial day to September, then honor a fallen veteran by flying their flag

This is a place where I literally felt Heaven on Earth. We visited the Cape May, to experience the sunset at this Sunset beach. The scheduled sunset was at 5.45 PM and we arrived there around 5.15 after visiting few other places. The weather was gloomy and hence I had no hopes on what colors the sunset could possibly offer. I decided to just capture few beach sand, waves and the SS Atlantus ship pictures (the broken structure that’s on the pics) and pack my kit. The ship was grounded by a storm in the ocean, after it served in the World War I.
When I almost started off, my wife asked why not wait for few more minutes and boy how the landscape changed drastically.
The hue and colors kept changing with every passing minute and I frantically started clicking pictures to not miss freezing those glorious scenes.
Never have I felt so humbled by all of Nature’s glory as much as I had, while the sun that we never spotted started setting down and left all of those spectators agape.

I’ll look forward to returning here soon and often!

Probably the most famous of the concert Liberty Ships in existence, the SS Atlantus was towed to near this location in 1926 to serve as a part of the Ferry dock for a proposed ferry line between Cape May and Lewes, Delaware. A storm on June 8th 1926 forced the Atlantus to ground here and despite attempts to pry her free, none were successful. The stern section is the only visible section above waterline now. A really interesting piece of ship building history slowly being lost to the sea.

Sunset Beach is a great beach to watch a sunset on the East Coast, something rare. The shipwreck of the SS Atlantus has an interesting history, especially as a concrete ship.

The view is incredible! The beach is really rocky at parts so I recommend tennis shoes or boots.

I felt as though I wanted to see something historical and I needed to be near the beach. I love rock hunting. My fiance said that we could go check out the lighthouse in Cape May but it was a little busy at the time so we went to the wreck area and it was a very enjoyable experience. There were a lot of families on the beach looking for Cape May diamonds, and it was a very nice relaxing time around 6 p. M. In the evening.

Great beach for family fun during the day. I prefer it for quiet fishing at night. This place gets packed about an hour before sunset, so plan accordingly. The sunset is incredible from here though. But right after the sun goes down the crowd is gone and the beach is all yours for fishing!

This is located in sunset beach cape may New Jersey. I been going here 21 years every summer. Can't go to wildwood or cape may without visiting. The place is packed at sundown so come early for closer parking. There is handicap spots available, a souvenir shop which let's everyone use bathroom. There is also a tasty chicken finger joint. You can also observe the watchtower used in WW1. There are places to sit. Family friendly. Historical
