Food was tasty. Started off with the Boratto-fig app that was presented nicely but lacked flavor. The apple-gorgonzola salad had a nice melody of zingy and earthy notes that blended well with the zesty dressing. The originally ordered bottle of wine was not available. The sommelier made a nice alternative recommendation. As the main course, the tender slow cooked halibut was a palate pleaser with sweet spinach along with a savory vinaigrette. The mushroom risotto was well prepared. Felt like seating could be spread out a bit more as the tables next to us were quite close. Would recommend & will be back.

I graduated with my Doctorate and had my graduation party, a very special occasion, at The Hill in Closter New Jersey.
They have an intimate private room upstairs and let me tell you they did NOT disappoint! I chose to have it done cocktail style and they had wait staff that were constantly passing hors d’oeuvres/appetizers. Lauren, who is the event Director literally did everything with precision and perfection! Not one detail was missed! She even had a signature drink, made for the occasion! The staff that was assigned to us was absolutely amazing! Justin seemed as though he was by my side every second and Jordan worked the room and made sure that not one guest had an empty hand, whether it be hors d’oeuvres or cocktails! We were allowed to bring in our own dessert from a bakery however, they do offer a choice of dessert if you so choose. Chef Ben, who settles for nothing less than excellence decided he was just going to make the deal even sweeter surprising me by finishing off the night by handing out Wisconsin cheese curds, which was a major hit as we are originally from Wisconsin and major Green Bay Packer fans, and there were several Wisconsinites in that room that night and those cheese curds literally topped the show off and made us just love him and The Hill that much more! You cannot go wrong if you come here for a small intimate dinner party in the main dining room or have a couple of cocktails in the lounge or reserve the intimate private room as I did!

Our group of 6 enjoyed the ambiance and warmth of The Hill, our party ordered a bottle of wine, 8 drinks, 4 appetizers and six meals. $ 600/tip all in.
Our server Matilda was prompt and efficent, our drinks arrived promptly as did our apps. The apps were served with a plate of bread with oil.
Scallops, halibut, chicken under brick our meals were all delightful and satisfying. We also enjoyed one dessert that we all picked at, I have included a photo.

I absolutely love this place! The Hill is warm and welcoming. With a nice ambiance, you'll never leave disappointed. The drinks, food, and service are phenomenal! It's reasonably priced and perfect for any outing -- date night, birthdays or just a night out with friends. If you love a good dirty martini, this place makes a perfect dirty martini. They also have live music on Thursdays!

Some of my favorite menu items include:
- Calamari
- Shishito peppers
- Chicken under a brick
- Herb marinated flat iron steak
- Warm butter cake

What a fabulous find in North Jersey! Located in Closter, the name of the establishment is derived from the word Schraalenberg, meaning barren mountain or hill during Dutch times. The owner, Ben Pollinger, who won a Michelin star in New York back in 2006, finally opens his own restaurant—in his home county. Formerly on the site that housed Harvest, this restaurant is our first timer and describes itself as an attractive contemporary rustic farmhouse. From the minute one parks in their private parking lot and walks up to their gorgeous enclosed patio designed for outdoor dining, you will know you made the right choice! It was easy to get a reservation via Open Table, but they asked for a $25 per person deposit in case of no show. Upon entering yesterday, my partner, our friends and I were greeted by the host and whisked to our table in the main dining room. It’s one of the rooms with plush blue chairs, striking light wood floors, a glorious cathedral ceiling, and a stunning stone fireplace. They also have a lounge area for additional dining with a bar and a private room upstairs on the next floor. Our server was Chelsea, who took care of all our requests and promptly brought complimentary focaccia bread with olive oil to start our meal. It was so good, we had to ask for seconds. The menu was limited and always changing. For starters, we decided on today’s special: Turkish Style Falafel (hummus, pickled red onion, arugula), Salmon Tartare (ponzu, sesame, avocado), and Sautéed Shrimp & Crispy Polenta Cakes (smoked gouda, pickled fresno chili, garlic). For the main meal, we opted for Today’s Special: Moroccan Style Wild Boar Tagine (chorizo, figs, almonds, cilantro, lime yogurt), Short Rib Mac N’ Cheese (tillamook cheddar, smoked gouda, herb bread crumbs), Slow Cooked Halibut (cherry tomato-chili-herb vinaigrette, wilted spinach), Roast Duck Breast (sauteed sweet and sour peppers, mandarin orange gastrique, israeli couscous), and Organic Green (cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, sherry vinaigrette). We even found a spot for dessert to share and got Chocolate Strawberry Cake (moist chocolate cake, strawberry ganache filling, milk chocolate crunchies) and Chocolate Mousse (strawberries, vanilla whipped cream). The food was cooked with fresh ingredients and was tasty and delicious. One suggestion to the Mac N’Cheese and wild boar would be to reduce a notch on the pepper. The staff is very personable. A little on the expensive side, but still great food. We can’t wait for a repeat performance, and we can recommend it.

Amazing amazing restaurant, I pass this place almost everyday coming home from work and finally decided to reserve a table.
The outside of the restaurant is decorated nice and the Christmas lights were a nice touch,
Once you get inside you see a beautifully designed interior restaurant with ample space a big bar and a section for live music.
The waiter was exceptionally nice and friendly and added a bit of a personal touch to the dinner.
The drinks were great and the food was perfectly cooked, and usually I take a lot more pictures but the food was there and gone in an instant. Tells you how good it was! Will definitely return.

Beautiful and spacious place. The Host sat us right away. There was a band playing oldies by a large bar, music could be heard in the whole restaurant. Our waitress was Maya, very sweet, attentive and accommodating. We ordered a bottle of wine, bottled water and she brought us bread. We ordered the organic arugula salad with Asian Apples, avocado and cheese, delicious and fresh. The ceviche was fresh, delicate flavors and beautifully presented. For our main course, seared, everything Tuna with bak choy and mushrooms. We also ordered grouper over a bed of lentils. Both entrees were cooked to perfectly, generous portions and quite tasty. We shared dessert, cinnamon crusted cheesecake with dulce de leche, very delicate, tasty and not too sweet plus Colombian coffee. We definitely had a wonderful dinner experience and will be back.

The place is nice and the atmosphere is excellent.
We visited again and the service was exceptional. The selection of wine and types of food were excellent.

The food itself was excellent. A bit pricey but very good.
Overall we loved the experience and will come back.

Love this place and enjoy the many times we have gone there, but this last time was not good. Our dumpling app was cold in the center, and so was the sauce. One bad food prep can happen, but then our quesadillas were also not hot. Did we complain? We let our bar tender know about the dumpling but just accepted it about a bad kitchen day and just paid a left. We hoped the host would ask us about our experience, but no one did. We hope this was just a one time issue.

Very nice and cozy place to have a romantic dinner. Good choice for our anniversary dinner. Staff are amazing, polite and courteous. Food is amazingly delicious and presented beautifully as well as their cocktails! And lastly, they offered dessert and coffee by the end of our dinner. Had a wonderful time at The Hill. The staff are courteous, friendly and attentive. Ricky was our server and he was accomodating and took care of all our requests promptly. The food was delicious from first course to dessert. The manager, Frank made sure to check in with our table multiple times. The restaurant decor is very pretty and perfect for the season. Would highly recommend.

Great chef and great service! Their chefs improves their menu periodically. Waiters and courteous and friendly. Recommend soft shell crab and salmon dish. Asparagus side dish was good too. The Foods was on the salter side, but in general everything was delicious and beautiful.

Great restaurant. Beautiful setting and vibes; unique and high quality food. Curated menu, every dish we tried was perfect. The service is also impeccable. We will be back!

Editing: back after COVID to find the place even better than before. First time with the kids and many dietary challenges; the restaurant delivered above and beyond! A lot of vegan and gluten-free options (we had for starters: green salad, shishito peppers, cauliflower soup from the Specials menu; entree: mushroom risotto made dairy-free and gluten-free); pescatarian options (we had oysters, fish tacos); meat (we had steak) and vegetarian options (we had a shakshuka with feta). The kids meals (priced at $10, huge portions), were homemade and delicious (we had pasta with butter, chicken fingers, and fries). They also have mocktails which my kids loved (and great lemonade).
Desserts were delicious and special, too.
Pricing is very reasonable - and great value for money.
This is an awesome place and we will definitely be back again :)

Editing: back again for a friends evening. Amazing seafood and salads; cocktails and service! As usual, attentive and considerate of allergies and preferences!

If you are looking for a nice night out for a drink or a delicious meal - this place is it. My husband and I enjoy coming here and love everything from the burgers (huge portion of fries and so good if you get truffle), the steaks, the lettuce tuna wrap app, polenta cake, short rib mac and cheese & desserts - are some of our favs. He loves the old fashions and their espresso martinis are my fav. The service is always amazing and it's a nice ambiance. Highly recommend.

I am a pescatarian and my wife loves fish and other seafood, so we had a great, over-the-top lunch at The Hill to celebrate my birthday in early November.

We booked a table, but when we arrived found that we had the dining room all to ourselves. The young man who greeted us (I believe his name is Ricky) also took our order for drinks and a half-dozen first courses.

That was way too much food and we took home leftovers, but it was one of the best lunches I've ever had. We had enjoyed a couple of dinners at The Hill before the Covid-19 pandemic began in March 2020, and our lunch reminded us this fine-dining restaurant is tops for seafood in northern New Jersey, if price is no object.

We ordered Fish Tacos ($18), a Mahi-Mahi Ceviche ($15), an Arugula Salad ($14), a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($17) and side orders of Shishito Peppers ($10) and Fries ($8). My wife had a glass of white wine ($15) and I drank a sparkling wine ($12).

Everything was delicious, but I recall the mahi-mahi in the ceviche was beautifully composed with avocado into a small tower, the cooked shrimp in the cocktail were some of the biggest I've seen, and snapped when I bit into one; and the arugula salad was a knockout.

I can't wait to splurge on another great seafood meal at The Hill.
