We have spent the last week in Seattle on vacation and needed a change in diet from fresh seafood. We stopped in St. Helens on our way to the Oregon coast and while searching restaurants Roy Thai stood out.
We were immediately greeted by a friendly young man who seated us by the front window where we could watch people walk by and after our drinks were served we relaxed after a full day traveling. We scanned the menu and discussed options to share and right away the Crispy Basil Chicken stood out so we ordered it along with Sizzling beef.
Crab Rangoon satisfied our hunger until our orders came and right away I knew that our food would be good. For me presentation means a lot and if the chef spends the time to make your entree look appealing then I think he also took the time to cook it right. The sizzling beef was served on a cast iron skillet resting on heavy wood and the beef and vegetables in a dark brown sauce were sizzling. The Crispy Basil chicken was what had my eye and nose. The many pieces of chicken in a red sauce looked amazing and smelled wonderful. My wife and I split both orders and dished from two bowls of rice to quickly fill our plates. The sizzling beef was excellent with good flavor and tender beef and tender vegetables but the crispy basil chicken was the show stopper.
The chicken was somehow tender inside but with a crispy outside. I do not know how to describe the outside of the chicken except to say that it was unlike any chicken I have ever had. The sauce the chicken was in had an excellent flavor and consistency and we both thought we picked the right combination because both flavor complimented the other.
After our meal one of the owners stopped by our table and we discussed the meal and it was easy to see that she took pride in her restaurant and the food she put on tables. We ended the evening with a Thai Iced Tea with ice cream in it and it was another amazing combination.
I cannot say enough good things about Roy Thai and I wished we lived closer than two thousand miles away.

Excellent lunch specials, but the dinner menu is just as good.

Very good Thai food. Probably the best in Columbia county. The coconut shrimp is to die for. The chicken Pad Thai is soooo good as well. Very nice owners with top notch service. Definitely one of my favorites in town. BTW the inside looks fresh and super clean. It's a nice experience. Enjoy 👍

Update:
This place set a high bar for quality food. We haven't lived in Saint Helens for close to a year-and-a-half now and still haven't found a Thai place that compares. We miss this restaurant.

Original Review:
I've been here a half dozen times since I first stumbled on it a couple months ago and I love this place! The food is absolutely delicious! The only other Thai place I've been to that had food this good was a food cart in Portland.

You can get food with no spiciness, or in a range from 1-4. 2 is amazing and is about as much as I generally like, and I haven't yet tried the 4 for fear of dissolving my tongue.

The servers have been friendly and it's really easy to relax here, plus there's the docks and a playground just across the parking lot which makes for great after meal walks.

Amazing Thai food! This little gem is hidden away in downtown St. Helens, Oregon right across the street from the Columbia View Park. We happened upon Roy Thai just by chance as we were exploring this enchanting little town we've recently moved to. To say we were pleasantly surprised by the experience would be a gross understatement. After a couple more visits we are HOOKED. New date night restaurant for sure!

Oh, and don't forget to order the Thai Iced Tea. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

As always wonderful food and service! Great Vegan options too. Give this place a try, they have consistently been serving up great food and service for months. If you've heard something bad about this place it has to be from a long time ago. I've been coming since September of 2017 and have never had a bad dish or bad service. Just remember they do close done in the afternoon for a couple of hours. Their Thai tea is better than any I've had previously . Thai iced coffee is so good, if they had a drive-thru I'd be ordering this every morning.

So yummy!! I ordered the Red Curry to go, it was ready in 15min on a Saturday & they were incredibly nice. I'm happy to have local Thai that's tasty & can't wait to try other dishes!

This is by far the best Thai restaurant around, even better than anything in Portland. The food is amazing and the staff is absolutely wonderful. They make you feel welcomed and are always great with our kids. We always look forward to going back!

This place by far has the best thai food I have ever eaten. The drunken noodles are delicious especially with some thai iced tea. The staff is super friendly and they are quick to take care of you. The price is perfect for the quality. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody looking for a place to eat.

Great authentic Thai food! Always leave full because portion sizes are quite large. Best Pad Thai I have ever had! Service is great and owners are a pleasure to talk with.

I recently moved back to St.Helens and was pleasantly surprised to know there was a Thai place in town as It's one of my favorite things to eat. I'm not one for saying how great a place looks and what not, but this place has the perfect location and a very cozy feel inside.

I wouldn't say It's the best thai I've ever had, but this place is definitely one of my favorite places in town to eat. The food is really good, I ordered pad thai, my girlfriend ordered fried rice, and we shared some Tom Kha soup. Generally I enjoy either the pad thai or fried rice better depending on specific Thai places, but both dishes were delicious here. Price was pretty good considering the nice location.

The best Pad Khi Mao (drunken noodles) I have found around In North America and I travel a lot for work. Granted it may just match my set of taste buds but WOW is it good!!!! So far everybody I have taken there has liked it.

Spicy scale is 0-4, I like hot food and 3 is perfect for me. I consider this to be in the top 2 for St. Helen’s restaurants. The decor is not super fancy but they have a beautiful restored pot belly stove on display that has been converted to a functional gas stove. Every time I’m in town I actually catch my mouth salivating when I think about lunch there.

This place is just bursting with good energy! And incredible food! Nina makes the best Thai food we have ever had. And now that Peter and Lina are here to help out with service this place is better than ever! We have tried lots of dishes since this is our favorite local restaurant. The Roasted Duck Curry was the last thing I tried and it was outstanding! The Khao Soi Noodles (SP1) are my go-to dish. Can't go wrong on a rainy NW day curling up to a creamy, crunchy, comforting (and ever so slightly spicy) bowl of this amazing noodle soup. The Strand Street Soup is also great on a cold wet day or when you are feeling a bit under the weather. It's not on the new menu but you can still ask for it. I highly recommend it. And please do your self a favor and try the Thai Iced Tea flavored Ice Cream. They make it themselves! So good! Can't say enough about Roythai. It feels like Cheers when we walk in there. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. So lucky to have this right here in St Helens! Thanks Nina, Peter and Lina!

Ordered the khai soy noodles, was creamy and spices were perfect, tender noodles on bottom, a nest of crunchy fried noodles placed on top, green onions. The flavor is excellent, can't find any dish that is comparable, I would make a trip just to eat this!

We had a drink at the bar while ordering to-go. The gentleman that helped us took notice of our vegetable and tofu protien options and informed us there was egg in the dishes we ordered. He also substituted coconut cream in my thai iced tea for half&half. Thank you Roy Thai for being so accommodating. Everything was delicious!

My favorite Thai restaurant in Oregon. I have been going here since they opened and have always been treated like family. This is one place that I can not recommend enough and hope sticks around for a long time to come.
