Came for XL climbing shoes, referred over from REI. Great selection, helpful staff (near closing on a Monday evening. Ultimately tried on five pairs of shoes to nail down my size (and make sure if I wanted laces or velcro).

They had helpful comments and were patient with my newcomer questions.

Their climbing shoe selection is pretty impressive. The whole store is well put-together. I’d like to just go there and shop around sometime.

Went in to find a mountaineering pack. Great selection and staff were very friendly and helpful. I found an excellent pack, better than I had hoped for. It was a great price too. Will definitely be back!

Came in 9/13 looking for climbing shoes. I know nothing about climbing. Gal there gave me lots of options and was able to talk me through everything. Great visit.

An excellent technical outdoor gear store with knowledgeable friendly staff. Wide selection of climbing gear, everything from approach shoes to totems. Backcountry ski gear, backpacks and backpacking stuff, technical layers, all packed into an approachably sized space. I recommend this store to all my friends and anyone that will listen. I’ve lived in Eugene for years and somehow never knew this was here. I needed a PFD last minute and late in the season and thought I’d be out of luck for finding one locally, but they had several styles to chose from in stock. The guys working there were super nice and helped me find one that would work for paddling and even helped fit it to me. It was even on sale! I will definitely be stopping back in.

I have been a customer of Backcountry Gear for over 5 years now. I have always received my order and have always been able to get exactly the item I am looking for which isn't always carried by larger retailers. I have once had a stock error that an item listed as in stock was out of stock (I was ordering cordage by the foot an needed a continuous strand. Though they had enough in stock it was in two strands). James immediately reached out by phone and email to let me know the problem and offer a solution. Their customer service is fantastic. I cannot speak for anyone else but I have always had a wonderful experience buying climbing, mountaineering, and hiking gear from them online and getting it shipped across the country with no issues. Best of all, they are very competitively priced. The level of customer service has made them my first choice since I have no local retailers that carry the equipment I need. I have nothing but a gigantic thank you to BackcountryGear.com and highly recommend them.

Honestly some of the best customer support ive ever experienced. The staff do a fantastic job of helping you find what you need. I asked for advice not only on gear, but climbing in general, and the staff where very enthusiastic about helping. They also gave great service helping me exchange a piece of gear most companies probably would not have taken back.
For those who have issues with the pricing, or shipping time. I would suggest that you remember that they are not Amazon. The gear is quality, and they are a local business.

Big fan! After my package was lost in the mail, Luke (customer service) was extremely helpful and gracious enough to replace my lost item. It was great working with a smaller outdoor shop vs a larger chain - more personal and responsive. Absolutely will be buying from them again

Ordered a pair of climbing shoes. When I came to pick them up everyone was super nice and they even suggested I try them on. Good thing because I ended up swapping the ones I ordered for a bigger size. Well, I get to the gym and the shoes really hurt. I brought them back to the store and the guys super nicely let me try on a larger size. They even asked I'd I wanted to try a different shoe at the same price point. No one made me feel bad or like I was bothering them. Climbing in the larger size shoes today was incredible!!! Never would have happened with Backcountry. Officially my go to place for everything adventure!

Went in to look for some entry level climbing shoes. The staff was helpful in finding a selection of shoes in my price range and were not overbearing in the least which I find to often be the case at other stores. They were all very friendly and helpful and I found exactly what I was looking for. They have an incredible selection of climbing shoes if you're ever in the market. I can't recommend this place enough.

Always seem to have what I'm looking for that other retailers don't. What's more, unlike some other (mostly) online retailers I've dealt with recently, their customer service has always been excellent to me. I've ordered climbing gear, ice climbing/mountaineering gear, and backpacking gear. Fast shipping, competitive prices, and good customer support - will continue to order from them in the future.

This is a company you're going to want to do business with over and over. I am very pleased with their prices and selection. They have a ton of climbing bolting hardware available on the website- sometimes this stuff can be hard to find. There was a small issue with my recent order, only half of it came. I called and spoke to Jeff who was probably the most helpful sales associate I've ever spoken to on the phone. It was nice to chit chat, and he made sure the other half of my order was overnighted no problem. I will certainly be ordering from them again. Keep rocking it guys!

Wow. Cant believe I never visited before today. They had everything I needed, and the staff was able to engage in a conversation that helped me not only get my needs met, but helped me learn a lot more about my options. Goodbye REI, Backcountry Gear has a new customer for life.

I have only shopped online with this company, but would definitely recommend them. I ordered three items, and I got an email saying two of them were backordered and wouldn’t be available by when I needed them. I replied to the email (that I assumed was an automated response), but instead I got a personalized reply from a real person and an immediate refund. I’m sorry my purchase didn’t work out this time, but I’ll definitely be shopping with them again!! (Also, I ordered from them because they were having a sale that made everything much cheaper than any competitors.)

Online purchase experience was above and beyond. I bought an inflatable item and was careful to open the shipping box it it arrived in. To my pleasant surprise, they had placed a piece of cardboard along the underside of the longer openings of the box so that I wouldn’t accidentally slice up the item I just purchased from BackCountry with my boxcutter. Thank you so much!

Great customer service.
I’ve only done business with them online. I asked about a back ordered item on the chat feature and was given an ETA of when the item would be in stock. I ordered my item and a few days later, got an email explaining that my item was back ordered and given an ETA of when it was shipped. They promptly answered all of my other questions. I’m very impressed with the customer service and the communication they have with customers. The item was received when expected as expected.

Ordered some snowshoes, best price I could find. They wrote me the next day and said they were out of stock and expected it in 1 week. Exactly 1 week from the date of that communication, I received a ship notice from their store and the very next day got my package. Great service, great communication and in this case followed up with getting me what I needed as promised.
