I have been to Payne’s several times and they are consistently good. The food is delicious. I tried a new soup and entree and they were a win. The service is stellar. Our waitress checked up on us continuously and made sure that our table was emptied of any dirty dishes. She also made sure that we had refills on our beverages. The atmosphere is great. The ambiance is a unique vibe that is both inviting and relaxing. We enjoy Payne’s and will definitely be back.

Quaint and comfortable atmosphere. Kind and generous service. Deliciously large handmade shakes!!! Tastes fresh from the garden Fattoush salad and a very filling complimentary bean dip with chips. Potato onion soup was light and delicate yet refreshing with scrumptious grilled bacon and brie sandwiches. And of course, the buttery crispy fish and chips with the perfect tarter sauce was the best... can't go wrong there.

Leaving with Rhubarb crumble and sticky toffee pudding desserts to go!!!

What an awesome place! From Garfield out front to the decor and menu, Payne's goes all in on the British pub theme. The staff was very friendly and the food is good. The fish and chips are so big that the teenage boy in our group couldn't finish it. Then the 10 year old yelled out, "this is the best milkshake I have ever had!" And who can argue with a 10 year old about the quality of milkshakes? It's a great place. Wish I would have tried Payne's sooner!

A nice little restaurant with several other British meals besides fish and chips. Bangers and mash was on the menu, but I was after fish and chips. I was not disappointed. The fish was tender yet fully cooked with a crispy batter that was not overdone.

Absolutely adore this restaurant. The waiter was very friendly, very informational, and very cool. The food was out of this world. It's honestly the best place I have ever been to eat at. If I could rate higher, I would. Cannot wait til the next time!

Wasn't expecting such fantastic fish and chips or a very British eatery while driving in through Indiana, especially this part of Indiana, but Payne's Restaurant is a place you should try if you're anywhere near Gas City. We only decided to stop in after seeing a billboard for fish and chips on the highway a few miles up. I was very curious and our curiosity paid off. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. We had cod and chips, fattoush, and soup. So good. We were thinking about sticking around for dinner, but we had places to be. Don't know when we'll be in the area again, but I'll be stopping in again when we are. Friendly service and the restaurant is cute and cozy.

Surprisingly excellent British restaurant in the middle of Indiana. A great spot if you’re in the Gas City area, or just passing through on I-69. Server was great, and the food and beer were excellent. Definitely recommend the fish and chips. Only slight negative was that the service was a little slow, but we were also a big group of 8 on a Sunday night. Would absolutely return here again!

I’ve always loved this place. It feels like home and the atmosphere is so relaxed and comfortable I wouldn’t even mind eating alone there. I especially love their outdoor seating - it’s so… nook-y 🥰

We had to fish and chips. I ordered my french fries without vinegar. I had sides order of potato salad. All was good. Large portion of the fish and chips is more than what I could eat. Took some home. Second time I’ve been here experience was about the same both times, we had a milkshake that tasted like coffee which was great. I recommend that for everyone I don’t remember what it was called. I would go back if I’m in the area prices were about what you would expect for what I received for three of us it was 90+ dollars.

WOW! JUST WOW! Stopped on our way to Michigan from down south and were absolutely thrilled that we did! Received complimentary bean dip and chips, yum. Ordered the Reuben and it was worth the money, both in taste, presentation and portion size. Wish we had a restaurant like this at home. Got the sticky toffee pudding to go. We will be back even though it's 2 and a half hours away! Service was fast and friendly, a win-win and way better than fast food. Made us want to try everything on the menu! Way to go Steve Payne, owner

We visited Payne’s on Sunday and the food was delicious! We started with a black bean dip and chips and it was so yummy! Then I had the medium Fish and Chips and my husband had the Bangers and Mash. It was so delicious! Everything was perfect! The crispy fish was excellent and the fries were cooked perfectly. My husband’s Bangers and Mash was so interesting because they use rutabagas with the potatoes. The flavor was exceptional!! We loved it! Atmosphere was great also.

If you’re looking for a great bite to eat, that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg or take forever and want to leave with your belly full, Go to Payne's‼Their food is absolutely delicious. They have very generous portion sizes and the atmosphere is always great. The fish n chips is crazy delicious. The wait staff is always friendly, and the cooks are always fast and our order is always right! If I were you, I would skip the subway, Burger King, or Cracker Barrel, and head to Paynes. You’ll save money and leave way happier.

This pub inspired restaurant has a lot to offer anyone who likes Brittish food. Each meal starts with a spicy black bean dip and chips. Tasty! For the appetizer I tried a cup of Cashew Soup which was a melange of delicious flavors and had Beef Stew with Yorkshire Pudding for the main course, it had a dark gravy that was delicious, but could have used a drop, or a cup of red wine or bourbon. Everything was tasty and different. I combined the food with a local Socks and Sandals beer which was a great complement. My husband had a cheeseburger, which he said was tasteless-why eat American
fast food in a pub? I would go back tonight and he would probably eat a fast food hamburger across the street.

The interior ldecor inside needs something. Eat outside, very pleasant.

There’s something special about this place! On a whim, I stopped in off the highway, passed by the usual fast food and found a gem! The black bean dip (not pictured because it was already gone) fish and chips along with raspberry potato salad was delightful. Sweet tea even was exceptional. Finally, the service was quick and friendly. Can’t wait to come back and I’m still sitting at the table.

We don't live anywhere near here (not even the same state), but anytime we are traveling by on the highway, we make time to stop and eat here. The food is AWESOME! Every single soup I've tried has been insanely delicious, and my husband loves the fish n chips. We always get a couple of sticky toffee puddings for the road, too. Payne's is a must try restaurant.

I've driven past signs for this restaurant for years but never stopped until just now. Amazing traditional British food, friendly people, and cozy atmosphere made this a great unexpected stop. I'll be taking my whole family on our next trip up from Indianapolis to Michigan.

Gas City Indiana - who knew?!?!
Highway billboard boasting British fare. It's Friday - we're looking for fish - why not!
Friendly greeting when we walked in. Very tidy and cozy eatery.
The menu wasn't extravagant, but suffice variety making us wish we ate meat on Fridays!!!
Server brought black bean dip and chips to start.
We ordered and our meal was delivered expeditiously. Cooked perfectly. Not greasy! We paid the upchufoe the mashed peas.
Not sure what they put in the tartar sauce, but it's delicious.
Our salad was fattoush!
Hubs enjoyed a Haze Stupid and I enjoyed a Strongbow cider.
All lovely.

We're traveling and once again got lucky and found a non-chain restaurant and a wonderful dining experience!

We live north of Fort Wayne and my son lives in Indianapolis. Gas City is half-way and we decided to try Payne's though I've seen the signs on I-69 for many years.

What a wonderful place to for great food, atmosphere and service. A real English pub. Definitely would recommend for a wonderful casual dining experience. Can't wait to go back.
