Hat Rock State Park is a very nice place to have a picnic and relax, watching the waterfowl, including pelicans, floating on the pond and having a family of ducks come for a visit, nestling by your feet for a nap while you are eating. There are beautiful trails that you can hike, leading you to beautiful vistas of the Columbia River and to Hat Rock itself. All in all, a most enjoyable park to visit!

One of those truly magical places. It is still basically wild but has a ton of history and some serious variety of nature. There is recently a suspected arson fire that destroyed quite a bit of wilderness but it's already regenerating just like it should. I did the hike from the Lewis and Clark trailhead Up to hat rock. Along the way you'll see some weird old things I'm pretty sure it's remnants of a old train depot and the foundation ,a bread Baking oven ,a stove And many old rusted remnants of the past. As you walk along you'll see animal paths coinciding with human paths as well as the old railroad grade. Work your way up to hot rock and you'll see an amazing view from the top. One of the best sunrises and sunsets can be seen in this area. Please pick up after yourself not many people will and it becomes a problem if things get chucked over and over and over. Also pack it out if you can instead of overloading dumpsters and making your problem somebody else's problem. I know all of this sounds hippie but we just need to do our part. If you're a strong swimmer there's an enclosed Swim area but you also can venture beyond and go out to the small island not too far. Don't be safe and you might be sorry ,be safe and you'll do much better. There are 2 campsites that are free but you have to reserve them it seems to be fairly difficult to get ahold of the agency in charge. Also be aware that this is rattlesnake country and they come out at night, so protect yourself. They don't want to hurt you ,they're just looking for a warm place to sleep. There are wetlands and scrub brush trees rocks animals just about everything in ecosystem needs. Go experience it. This is real Washington!

It's a cool place for sure. I went during winter so it wasn't green and the bathroom was closed. However it is still a fun little hike to see the hat shaped rock and read about Lewis and Clark and how the rock was formed.. stop by and see for yourself..

Had a great day fishing. No fish but spent quality time with the family. Hat Rock State Park is a beautiful place to hang out.

I stumbled upon this place "Hat Rock" on a road trip, It does look like a hat, reminds me of a miniature Devils Tower. To give an idea of scale, this feature is 70 feet high.

I arrived early in the morning when the only others around were a couple of fishermen who pulled in ahead of me. Peaceful. Bathroom facilities but it is a forest service type porta potty.

Went for first time with my wife and our dog. Looks like a great place to visit for your avg park function. There were ducks and Deer at the park so that will be great for the little ones. There is a boat ramp for water sports. The only thing lacking was a place for swimming. There were several trails to walk. Will definitely return again

We brought lunch and had a picnic. The walk from the picnic area up to Hat Rock is pretty easy and a nice length for most people. The historical information boards add interest.

It's a place I enjoy for a late afternoon walk, especially when I'm feeling meditative. I can experience many diverse energies here, some ancient and some very new. I highly recomend this peaceful location to anyone in the area.

I'm always amazed at the caliber of Oregon's state park system. Every park, whether it be designating or maintaining, really showcases the insane variety and beauty of our state. And they have done it again with Hat Rock.

As a long time Oregonian I had no idea this place existed. The park is somewhat isolated from many major population centers and you dont find it by just 'passing through.' The only way we found it was by taking the back route from Spokane.

Now, about the park. No it is not large, but what you get here is very very peaceful. SUPER QUIET. It takes only a few seconds of walking to the rock to really feel the history here. The picnic area is large and clean ... perfect respite from the long, open roads in this area. Well done, OSP.

A Long Time Ago...we had a boat and house at McNary Yacht Club. Yachts? No, not really but it is a great area. Hat Rock is cool, a pillar of basalt. Which is what Oregon has quite a lot of. Went boating on the Columbia on a quiet day. A relative was in from Missouri and wanted to see the river...Beautiful. Had to launch in Hat Rock State Park, McNary is no longer open to the public. We did go in the harbor though to see how it looked. This is where we moored our boat way back when. McNary Dam has locks the ever-present barges go through.

Park is beautiful! I didnt take any photos of the park, but took a few of hat rock. There are walking rock trails up to hat rock if you want to hike over to it.

Not a bad drive.. It was like a little mini Devil's Tower... Picnic area and tables are near by.. Easy hike to the base of the rock.

Nice State Park just outside of Hermiston. Hat Rock itself is very picturesque and can be accessed by a gravel trail. There's a boat ramp and a lot of green space, too bad the place was basically empty. Free to visit.
