Very cool place to stay. If you’ve made it this far to Lushoto, you would find this place to be quite a luxury. I don’t know if it has changed, but when we stayed there, the hot water was heated up with a wood burning stove…very cool! The bar was also surprisingly well stocked. For being in such a remote location, they even had a bottle of Laphroaig!

I loved this place. It’s well off the beaten path but worth the hour+ trip up the mountain. The owners were kind and hospitable and their dog Louis had the run of the place. Our group hiked to a beautiful scenic cliff that could take your breath away and in the evening the staff lit a fire and we gathered around the fire to laugh and reflect on life and our journey. We invited a few peace corps volunteers into our fire circle and talked about their work in the local villages. One night was a chilly rainy night so we lit a fire in our room’s fireplace and cozied-up in the room. Truly a memorable experience. Worth a few nights to relax and unwind if you’re traveling Tanzania and want to take a break from the road.

We have stayed at Lawn’s whenever we have visited Lushoto. And this place is just absolutely breathtaking. Rooms are big and cozy. Beautiful gardens, delicious food and activities for almost all age group. The environment is great, quiet and near to the center. The best part church bells on Sunday . Evenings are great near fireplace and the hotel staff are very welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to many more stays.

Lawns hotel is a labor of love, and the best hotel we stayed in during our two week trip to Tanzania! We love the beautiful gardens, the warm fireplace, the comfy beds and the delicious meals. The staff were warm, kind and super helpful— they even allowed us to check at 8am after we returned tired and dusty from a hike through the usambara mountains. There was a national blackout during our stay, and the kitchen still churned out a three course dinner—amazing! Louie the dog is always ready to greet visitors in exchange for pats and ear scratches

There’s a brand new, gorgeous pool which we didn’t use during winter, but I imagine it will be perfect for hot summers

Shambaa Eco Tours is also right next door with reasonably priced tours. We highly recommend the multi day hike to Mtae with Charles— lots of great vistas, chameleon spotting and good exercise!

Lovely old hotel run by a family for generations. Great effort from the owner to keep the old style hotel, furnitures, etc. We love the fire pit and fire for hot water.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.

During our roadtrip through Tanzania we stayed at Lawn's Hotel for 1 night. Warm friendly welcome, good bungalows on green grass and many flowers. Nice general sitting area on the terrace. Best bed and shower we have experienced in Tanzania! The village is close and has a nice local market to walk around.

Thanks!

My wife and I originally planned to stay here for 2 nights but we decided to extend our stay to 4 nights instead. This place is absolutely beautiful, from cleaningness, view, staff, food and more is by far the greatest place we stayed in Tanzania.

If google had 6 stars, we would have given them no problem.

Lushoto in general is a very friendly and small village which is located in a mountain between Arusha and Zanzibar, a lot of tourists decided to fly and unfortunately miss visiting Lushoto, this place is somewhere that you wouldn’t regret visiting.

The Lawns hotel is a really beautiful place to stay right in the middle of the green Usambara mountains. It is located very close to the Center of Lushoto but it feels like you are just surrounded by nature. The staff is very polite and helpful and they even gave us back some money when we had to leave earlier than planned. Very kind! There are games to play, so it is a great place for couples and families. The food is very delicious as well! I 100% recommend you staying there!

We stayed one night, didn't book in advance and just showed up and the hotel exceeded all our expectations!!
Staff at the reception and at the restaurant+bar was super friendly. The hotel has nice spacious rooms with very comfortable beds, a big public area with a terrace with great view, a spa, cozy restaurant with fireplace and a big garden with playground.
We really enjoyed all our stay and will choose this place again when we come to Lushoto.

Excellent stay at Lawns. We stayed there on our first and last night in Usambara mountains, we enjoyed both rooms; the basic and superior rooms. I was sick after the trek and Lawns was the perfect place to sleep and recover. No trouble with noise and the owners and staff were really nice. We tried the restaurant on the first night, it was very tasty, breakfast was also very good. Try out the bar, it’s quiet but entertaining with all the decoration and books to discover!

I have never felt more immediately at peace as when I came to this hotel. They offer all the staples of luxury lodges (warm water, cleanliness, stocked bar) with the laid back style of a backpacker hostel. The rooms are simple but have everything essential (refillable glass water bottles instead of plastic is a plus). The main lounging area has a bar, a piano, a library and a gorgeous terrace. Even if you're not on a budget I would recommend!

Excellent place for discovering the area. The hotel is very helpful and responsive. The accommodation is clean, beautiful and food is very good. We even got a free upgrade to a excellent room. We can highly recommend and would book immediately again!

It's a very nice place to stay in Lushoto Town. The pace has nice gardens and engagements for children. The management couple, Alessandro and Christina, are awesome hosts and make all the effort to make things comfortable. We had a problem with our car here and they helped a lot to get if fixed. The rooms have been recently renovated and give a fresh look. The bar has a lot of history with old currency notes and coins.

very cute place right in the forest somewhat on top of the town. Rooms are adequate (we were here with a lot of rain (October) which made everything slightly damp), food was excellent although you pay Mzungu prices, and the staff extraordinarily friendly. Also very helpful with booking any tours or guides for excursions. The massage is highly recommended.

It's an amazing beautiful place, so quite and peaceful, sorounded by tall trees with a nice view of lushoto town and also some of the hills around.
The food is mouth watering and beyond delicious, the serve a three course meal and always have a daily menu.
WiFi is available in the dinning room and common room which are well designed with colorful African fabric
The place has camping as well with hot showers
The rooms are great and the price is friendly. Not forgetting the hotel is about 100 years or more for those of you who like old like me it brings back so much feelings and originality.
The owners are so caring and wonderful people, very knowledgeable! And the staff are great:)

We stayed in Lawm’s Hotel for 2 nights. If you are using google maps, be careful as when we drove to Lushoto the road wasn’t marked on google maps.
Lawn’s hotel was great, the rooms were clean and the stuff was very helpful. (They also helped us to call the airport and arrange suitcase pickup after the airline lost our suitcases). The hotel restaurant offered few but tasty meals. Breakfast was very rich (eggs, pancakes, fruits, toasts).
There was enough space to park several cars too.
The hotel can help arranging a tour guide. We hiked with the guide around 25km. The price was around $65 per person, but I think it varies on the length of the tour and location.

Stopped for lunch! Great food, but the french fries could been more crispy. Good prices, especially the beverages, beer 3000 and savannah cider 5000. Great facilities, bathroom and good service with great english. Not far from centre.

New owners (since Jan 2016) of loveliest old hotel in Lushoto have done their best in making this place a great hotel again. Location very close to the center is excellent (if you want to have access to ATM, market, bus station) while being hidden on a green hill.
Although we had an issue with warm water supply, that wasn't really a problem, because the young owners responded in the most nice and professional way.
We especially enjoyed to spend our spare time on the nice terrasse and in the bar and lounge area (fireplace, darts, TV, wifi).
We even had a very romantic fireplace in our room.
Thanks for the very enjoyable stay.
