We stayed just before and during Christmas at Zanzibar Sunrise.

Check-in
Great check-in. The receptionist told us about the facilities and we could order any welcome drink we want.

Rooms
The rooms are nice. We had a sea-view room which was great. Beautiful view, good shower and a great bed that was being prepared every evening by the staff (sprayed and closed for the mosquitos).
Could be a bit warm in the rooms at night, so put on the fan. Would recommend the owner to determine the possibilities of installing an airco.

Restaurant
Nothing bad the say about the restaurant. The food is good and affordable. We tried almost everything on the menu and all was good. The wines are also quite good, but hopefully the repertoire will be extended in the future.

Yoga
We’re normally not into yoga, but we tried a yoga sessions the second day in the morning. Both of us where positively surprised and we ended up with doing yoga every morning. Great way to relax before breakfast.

Service/Staff
The people at the reception and restaurant are lovely and kind. We only had one issue, but this was resolved in a great way. So also big kudo’s to the after services.

All in all a great experience and I would highly recommend Zanzibar Sunrise. For sure we will come back in the future.

A little piece of boutique luxury in Zanzibar. Everything from the room, food, service and location were remarkable. The location was a bit quiet when we went with not much action on the beach, but we really enjoyed it for a week. Great place for a honeymoon.

Bandas are fantastic and you are literally in the beach. Amazing sunrises and landscape with low tide. Some anoying beach boys though. The reef walk is a must. Also there's music 2 nights per week in the restaurant which serves quality food, although not cheap. Service was good but could be better.

Unreal place. A genuine luxury place. We went for honeymoon and it truly lived up to our hopes. Great food, normal.drinks, fantastic staff with white sand beaches, palm tree, a pool and I wish I could have stayed there longer...

The staff was absolutely amazing and they organized the perfect setting for the proposal to my girlfriend. Every employee is extremely friendly and courteous. The hotel is very well maintained, the rooms are always clean, the food is wonderful and the direct access from the room to the beach us a dream.

We had a very nice time at Zanzibar Sunrise. The staff is very friendly and always gives you a smile. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and they put a lot of effort into it. Breakfast was all day and plentiful. The facility is very nice and clean and very inviting to relax. The massage is highly recommended. There is a lot of time taken for the needs of the guests.

Location and property are stunning and perfectly laid out. However, what really made our stay so memorable was the hospitality and service. The staff are all excellent, friendly and accommodating… Sylvia made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. Highly recommend the reef walk in the mornings. The food was also good (lobster tagliatelle and tuna tartar are Delicious!)

This hidden gem has beautiful sunrise views with your porch leading up to the beach! One of the few beaches with a reef walking distance!

Delicious and fresh food paired with fresh squeezed juices are must.

Friendly staff, everyone speaks English and attends to your needs.

Absolutely great!

The beach is beautiful and not really crowded. We had a bungalow at the beach and the view is magnificent. Every time you leave your room it really blows your mind.

Everybody at the Hotel is extremely friendly. Everything is perfectly organized. We booked plenty of tours with the hotel and it always has been a pleasure. Your drivers are always on time. Eva the Manager was Great with all the planning (airport pickup, tours, bringing us back to the airport)

The food was great too. Dinner is not cheap (quality has its price) but is definitely cheaper then back at home. The seafood is fresh and tastes delicious.

We had an amazing time at Sunrise, can’t recommend it enough. The location in Matemwe village was lovely, the food was all around excellent (great dinner options). The entertainment was top notch, we enjoyed the guided reef walk, yoga on the deck by Sylvia, and the village walk all which were included with our stay. The live music was great specially the band on Tuesday night. The true highlight was the staff, they were welcoming and accommodating. Special shout out to Rosie and Mussa who were so friendly and attentive! Can’t wait to go back :)

We often go for the great food and regular excellent music nights. The food is innovative and uses locally sourced fresh food with a Euro - Swahili focus, and it always delivers!!

The main bar restaurant is right next to the beach, just steps to a white sand turquoise waters paradise. There's a pool here and behind that another beautiful pool for guests' use. Accommodation is small cottage or "Bandas" - local materials, traditional coconut thatch - like the main area. There's yoga on site too.

Management are superb and staff, friendly and attentive. We really love this place and have a regular Friday table booked usually for about ten friends!! So you see we are huge fans!!!

coffee maker in the room
prices for Zanzibar a bit too high
clean beach section a bit (trash, algae), it just makes such a difference

What a great place! Gorgeous, great food, and wonderful staff! We were there during a live show and loved every moment. Drinks are also great and the food was fantastic! I'd definitely visit during my next visit to Zanzibar. Oh, forgot to mention: the way to get there is s-c-a-r-y! Like, really. Don't worry if you literally drive for 10' between short dead-end-looking alleys, this IS the right way 😂

Stunning boutique hotel. Very wholesome and everything from food, staff and stay was perfect.
Abu, Moussa and Jenny were incredible. Had the nicest most hospitable service and great help.

The food was extra Felicia ok with really great flavors and great seafood. Hats off to the chef !!! Definitely unique flavors. Slightly on the higher end when compared to Zanzibar venues but this one is definitely worth it and you can see that in the treatment, service and the quality of everything.
Will strongly recommend you come here if you’re interested in just unwinding, relaxing and being calm.

Tips: I would suggest you get the beach bungalow cause the view is incredible. Might be slightly dark at night but that’s due to the low voltage. We liked it though cause it helped us unwind a lot. And for the food, get the half board cause the food is absolutely incredible !!

We had an amazing stay in Zanzibar Sunrise. The ocean front location is superb, the beach front bungalows are amazing, the stuff always friendly and hospitable. More to that, what makes this place special is the good vibes, the positive chilled out energy throughout the hotel and its people. A true "Hakuna Matata" mentality by the owners and the locals. Thank you all, definitely looking forward to visiting again!!

Had a three night stay and loved it. Friendly staff, amazing pool area and bungalows right on the water. The food was hit or miss and quite expensive, but that is just the nature hotels in this area. The calamari and fish curry were unbelievably good, though!

Excellent place to just recuperate and relax. We came here after climbing Kilimanjaro and loved the peaceful atmosphere. The room was lovely, the service excellent, and the food at the restaurant was reasonably priced and top notch. Sylvia, the host, did everything she could to make our stay lovely. Strongly recommended.

Amazing views from the beachfront bungalows sleeping to the sound of the waves. So many brilliant extras such as use of bikes and yoga sessions. The food was absolutely incredible, as were all the staff. The breakfasts, omg all day and all you can eat… to die for. We would have stayed longer but was fully booked!
