Deyrulzafaran Monastery, located near Mardin, Turkey, is a significant historical and religious site. Founded around 493 AD on a former Temple of Sun, it's known as the Saffron Monastery due to the saffron grown around it and the building's warm color. The monastery was the seat of the Syriac Orthodox Church for nearly 640 years. Visitors can explore various parts of the monastery, including the Temple of Sun, the Church of Mor Hananyo, and the House of Saints. The site is known for its impressive stone craftsmanship and hosts important religious artifacts. It's about 4 km from Mardin and accessible by taxi. The monastery offers guided tours, a gift shop, and a cafe

Very crowded but no problem if you take it slowly. The architecture was so beautiful. Love the designs and in awe of how the actually constructed this gorgeous monastery. Just a short drive out of town and very near the Syrian border. The nuns even brew their own beer 🍺 🤣

High recommend visiting! There are tour guides in charge of small groups and explain each of the places. But it was Turkish. Beautiful and peaceful place. 👍🏼

Always religious places are the right place to go and visit
When you go there you will have a nice your with a guide that's tells you the story of everything but the bad news is they only knows Turkish
The place is very nice architecture wise and the views are perfect especially it's far from the city center and it's on a high level

Must see Orthodox churches from 500 AD. Many Toms and more. The churches are actively open. You can see the baptism rooms in the pictures.

This place is the soul of Mesopotamia! The sun temple downstairs is a must see place! 12.000 to 15.000 years ago, before people could even build walls (they were living in caves), their beliefs made them learn and understand about physics: They digged the ground to have the four walls (genius!), but what they did to close the top was beyond amazing: they came up with the idea of key stones, so they were able to build a roof without any kind binder.
That place still stands today.
And the calm energy (what we call the good vibes nowadays I guess) in the chapel is just wonderful. It doesn't feel like a place where people take their suffering much, or maybe it's cleansed very well by the people who take care of the place. The locals of Mardin talk very highly of Mor Gabriyel, the high priest, and recommend that you go talk to him if you see him.
The only downside is that the guide's English was incomprehensible, so you need to read about to place before you go there.

Deyrulzafaran Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is one of the most important tourist attractions in Mardin. The monastery is a beautiful and historic site, and it is a reminder of the rich history and culture of the Syriac Orthodox Church.

Still an active monastery. Big groups don't fit into the setting much. The visits can be very very brief
