Aya Yorgi Church

You have to walk like 1 km from the last bus stop, but it is worth it, beautiful church, so peaceful, and you can see many old art pieces on the walls of the church, and the view from the top is breathtaking, definitely worth to walk , you can only hear the sounds of nature nothing else, and there is a restaurant right next to the church, and when walk down again don’t forget to buy some gift from the old man on the road 💯😊 i will always remember this place and i hope i will come again to pray and relax 🙏🏼❤

⛪ 🏝The Church of St. George (Aya Yorgi in Turkish). It is located on Büyükada, the largest of the Princes’ Islands.
It’s a peaceful place with its history and dramatic happening along the ages.
The way to the church isn’t so easy walk. Let’s say it is pilgrim’s trail.
So be sure you have comfortable shoes👟👟

Inside the church you can see exceptional icons made in Greek style. And the famous and old one is the icon of Saint George.
Better to travel during spring or early autumn season but despite this I’ve been there early December and the weather was quite good.
Summer period might not be the best to visit these special places.

Well worth a visit to this historic small Greek Orthodox Church with old icons and fantastic interior. It's quite a walk up a fairly steep hill, can be very hot in summer time, so have water and be reasonably fit. There is no transport from the bottom. You can rest along the way and as well as the church at the top, there's also a decent restaurant with wine and cold beer!!

A bit of trek up to the church, but most definitely worth it. Bring a bottle of water with you and make sure you use the bathroom before starting your journey.

It is a steep 1km walk up the hill, but it is worth it for the sunset view. The church is very quaint as well. There is also a cafe at the top. Definitely take the trip!

Very beautiful place. The road is bit tiring, especially when it’s hot, but panoramic view of Marmara sea is stunning. Everyone should see it.

Such a wonderful place on the top of the mountain at Büyükada! The view is stunning! The church is so beautiful. A quiet, calm place with beautiful icons. Outside there is a very nice place to eat and drink with very reasonable prices for it's location. The sad part is the people who disrespect the nature...the surrounding is full of garbage....

A small church on the top of the mountain. I am not a religious person yet the atmosphere there is unmistakably aweinspiring. I recommend you visit not only church interior itself but also the courtyard to the right from the entrance. It has an amazing view on the several surrounding islands - Heybeliada and two or three smaller ones. Sedef Ada can be seen from the cafe near the church.

It's a 1km incline walk to the top but the views are worth it. If you packed some lunch, this is an excellent spot to eat and take a break from your hike

It's going to be a long hill walking and definitely related with your overall fitness level. Once you're up over there, just stay and enjoy as much as possible.

The hike up to the church is highly recommended, there you can get the best views of büyük ada

Amazing place and a must visit Greek orthodox church at the highest point of buyukada of princes islands. Great panoramic view from that location that can be reached first by horse carriage then by walk for 10 min up to the hill. A bit tiring but it is worth it.

it takes only 10,15 minutes to hikes & then this beautiful view came after
the hiking seriously im in love with this place literally i go to 2 times with in 2 weeks
totally worth it 💯 i recommend everyone to go this place 🥰

Travel to yourself
Barefoot 4 am in the Morning in complete silence... only thing you carry is your Self and water... one of the pilgrimiges to a beautiful sunrise... Gratitude in the presence of Allah and with the Guide of the angels...

Wonderful place and view , but the only problem is that all the writings inside the church is in turkish language 😶 and there was some historical writings in Greece language .
Hope if they translate these writings because lot of foreigners can't read turkish or Greece.

Be prepared. Very tiring and I almost gave up. After reaching the church, I felt like throwing up. But the view from there was TOTALLY WORTH IT. The Church also looked very beautiful (all Greek writings inside), and built in 20th century. No photos allowed inside. Nice and calm place to worship too.

The place is definitely must visit for all. The church is on the top of the hill with fabulous views on Istanbul and sea. An atmosphere in church helps to relax soul. Really advise you to sit on a chair near walls, close eyes and think of nothing. On the left side from the church is very good restaurant with the greatest lamb shish kebab.

We went this place on July and the sunset view was magnificent...

October, March's weekdays are the best to go and walk around

Divine Holy place with a beautiful history. It was worth every minute of sweat as it was not easy to go up on the hill walking in the sun, but the reward after was priceless. Recommend this place amd really enjoy every second of it. After you can relax in the restaurant enjoying the islands views.
