Incredibly quiet place with a beautiful garden. The museum itself is interesting and helps visitors to understand how dervishes were living during the Ottoman era. This is a spiritual place and well organized museum. We enjoyed our visit.

What a beautiful museum exploring this mystical branch of Islam and it’s influence during the Ottoman Empire. Lovely displayed, ornate exhibits and impressive hall for the twirling. Also right next to Galata so easy to do if you’re in the area and included as part of the Istanbul museum pass

There are no whirling dance ceremonies due to covid but its garden is a place to sit for hours when I need “silence” . The graveyard in the garden is called as “ Silent House” . Per the Mevlevi belief , they are not dead. They are still present and still aware. They are just silent until the judgment day.

Galata Mevlevi Lodge Museum
I have been living in Istanbul for the last 50+ years, saw almost all the museums and cultural places, but missed this very important historic lodge.
The Galata Mevlevi Lodge was established in 1491, and became a museum in 2011.
This is a historical center where whirling dance ceremonies are regularly performed.
The ground floor is where exhibits of Mevlevi Culture are displayed. But the most important is on the first floor where the Sema area is located. The floor is covered with walnut wood. The ceiling displays beautiful ornaments.
Any visit to Istanbul should definitely include this cultural heritage.
The place is very easy to reach. It is located at one end of İstiklal street, next to the Tünel gate.

Near to Galata Tower and very close to Tunel's İstaklal street exit. This historichal place is include a library and graves. Rumi's idea 'peace and love' living in this 'Mevlevihane'. Every year, first week of jun you can see 'Semazens' while they are pray and your soul became a bird if you can understand why they are turning...

It’s the place where Sema prayers are held, besides several well-known sufis are buried. It’s great atmosphere to feel the peace and spirituality. Poems of Mowlana Rumi are presented in several languages.

Before the continent of America had been explored yet, this Mevlevihane was built in 1491. It is such a mystic and peaceful place in downtown and entertaining center of Istanbul. There is a two layered museum to show how such a mystic place used to managed at those times. There is a very old cemetery inside the walls of Mevlevihane , and on the gate wrote “Silents” which would affect you deeply. Even Ibrahim Muteferrika is resting here who brought the “press” technology to Ottoman Empire. You can watch a show of “whirling dervishes” on Sunday’s which cost around 100TL and tickets only buyable in the same day.

You really need to visit it if you are in Istanbul, every Saturday and Sunday 5 to 6 pm will be a Mevlevi dancing, soufisme... its really original and showing the soufisme culture, the staff are amazing, we bought our ticket on Saturday to come on Sunday, but when we arrived we noticed that we didn't bring our ticket, the guy there remembered me and allowed us to come in without ticket.. yeah this is the Soufisme behavior. Love it

I love going there and visiting again and again. The atmosphere is beautiful. You can see different kinds of instruments, clothes that they had in old days. There is a cemetery inside the museum, and if you can catch, you can watch the whirling dervishes, but it may not be free.

The price is fair enough and you can read about the music, calligraphy and how they were trained in that time. The second floor has a beautiful architectural design.

Great museum and interesting hook to Ottoman history. l felt I learned insights roughly analogous to Western European monasteries.
Don't miss the upstairs. Easy to miss unless you seek the stairs.
Also ask about upcoming performances.

Good view from the top. There is exposition inside the tower about the history of trading and busines in the Medieval time. The best pass is the pass with Museum Card.

We went to Hodjapasha and attended a Dervish program which lasted for an hour. It is a spiritual journey which influences to understand something hidden in every human being’s heart which is named as *Secret* as per Mevlana and Islamic Suffism.
