This place holds great significance for Muslims as Eyup was an eminent historic figure and a friend of the Prophet (SAW). He is buried here and thus the name of the mosque. Pilgrims can pay respects at the tomb and pray in the mosque.

Eyup Sultan Mosque is one of the most prominent and historic mosques in Istanbul.
The mosque is named after Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who died during the Arab siege of Constantinople in 674 AD. According to Islamic tradition, the tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari was discovered during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II, who conquered Constantinople in 1453. Sultan Mehmed II ordered the construction of a mosque on the site in honor of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari.

Visiting the Blue Mosque was pleasant on the eye but the heart felt nothing, on arrival at this place the heart sparked into life. Such spaces are energy centers and you should feel then on visiting, this place is of blessing and you could feel it even on approach.

A companion is buried here and they have a plaque claiming to be of the Prophet's. The Prophet's ﷺ shoe print, as well as beautiful mosque and courtyard with two trees seen in a dream that signified where the companions final resting place was.

A wonderful place to visit.

This mosque is a true masterpiece of Islamic architecture and a landmark that showcases the rich history and cultural heritage of Turkey. The mosque is truly stunning, with its towering minarets and intricate geometric patterns.

You will be awestruck by the grandeur of the structure and the incredible attention to detail in its design. Inside, the mosque is just as impressive, with stunning stained glass windows and beautiful calligraphy adorning the walls. The atmosphere inside the mosque is both peaceful and uplifting.

The location of the mosque is also noteworthy, as it is situated in the historic district of Eyup, which is considered a very important place in Islamic history. Eyup was the first Muslim settlement in Istanbul and the location of the tomb of Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad.

I highly recommend a visit to Eyup sultan mosque

Companion of the prophet Muhammad SAWW lies here. Nothing else matters. But for information the masjid is beautiful with delicate design and refined work screaming quality. The tomb of Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari RA is beautiful and clean. There are some holy relics put there as well. If you're in Istanbul you've to go there for sure. Definitely a no brainer.

Nothing bad to say about this mosque, it is simply beautiful, warm, cool, friendly, inviting and awe-inspiring. View of tomb of ancient cleric adds gravitas to the visit. The mosque is serenity and respite from urban chaos. Sit on the pretty blue carpet and reflect...

The area around the mosque is very inviting, comfortable, like a small town, with mostly locals and Turkish folks, families, milling around, resting, feeding the birds (funny little bird pen, where you can buy food and heave it a the rats-with-wings, to keep them away from fountain, a very good idea). Very nice big fountain nearby, clean WCs well marked and visible (5TL each, as normal). Lots of cute shops around, the usual ice cream playing nice with the kids.

Very welcoming and warm place.

This was one of the most impressive and over powering place you visit. I was just immersed in it and literally forgot to take many pictures. So many years later still it looks like it’s an over powering place and a place to respect. Read the history and you will know why this one place is so important you will truly appreciate it. I was there for over an hour and still wants to return and pay my respects. If you are Istanbul you must visit and experience what I have. You will love it.
