Very affordable with a ticket price of $6 and the place was huge. There is so much to see here for boat nerds and people who want to take a leisurely walk and learn something.

The boats inside were gorgeous and well maintained. The displays were very informative and had english translations.

This is one of the most underrated museums in Istanbul.

Stepping into the naval museum in Istanbul is like diving into centuries of rich maritime history. With an impressive collection that includes priceless artifacts such as the Sultan's boats and a wealth of exhibits detailing Turkish naval history, this museum offers a captivating journey through time. The attention to detail in preserving and presenting these invaluable pieces is commendable, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in naval history or simply seeking to appreciate the cultural heritage of Istanbul.

One of the most underrated museums in Istanbul 🇹🇷⚓⛴🌊.

Easy to get to from the ferry port and bust stop, lots to see and do, and although they don't accept Muzekart, it's affordable (200TL at the time). I'd recommend taking at least half-a-day to see and experience all the exhibits.

A must visit if you're in Istanbul.

Very nice and interesting museum.
Turkiye’s history is absolutely amazing and they know exactly how to cherish and showcase it.

The museum is all about sea related items. Ships, boats, submarines, accessories and diving clothes, weapons…etc

It’s worth the visit.

This museum would be very interesting for kids and their fathers. The exposition starts with old luxary long boats that are hundreds of years old, then as you go further you can see how the ships have been evolving.

I particularly enjoyed a few rooms showing the history of the diving equipment.

If you are not into this kind of museums you could always have coffee or a beer in the beautiful cafe on the first floor.

The tickets were 100 lira per person in September of 2022.

Very nice museum if you are interested in ships, naval history and paraphernalia...
Absolutely impressive the Sultan's historical Galley apparently from Mehmet II very well preserved. The rest of the galleys (mostly from XIX century) are very nice too. A well documented travel through Otoman history and the battles and navegación history. Very nice collection of old diving equipments too.

Entry is 100 TRY but totally worth it because the exhibitions are amazing. This museum has ships from the sultans, to WWI naval tools and everything in between. Lots of unique exhibits for diving, uniforms, weapons and other intriguing maritime equipment.

Amazing historical voyage of the Turkish Navy, starting from pre-Ottoman until the modern day.

No queues, well organized with explanations in both Turkish and English.

A bit light on the background and significance of some of the pieces. Could benefit from a guide book

What an amazing museum! Usually off the beaten path regarding places to visit in Istanbul but if you've been here and done the necessary this and that this place is a must visit. They put centuries old Ottoman era boats into the place itself. The explanations of Ottoman/Turkish maritime history is great. Lovely place and has a really cool cafe inside.

A good museum, showing the development of the navy from the beginnings of the Ottoman Empire, to the present day.
The museum starts with showing busts of famous admirals, before showing ceremonial galleys used by the Ottoman sultans. The exhibition continues on various levels, with many detailed exhibits on the navy throughout the centuries, up until the present day. I found the section on the old diving equipment particularly interesting.

A must see!
The Istanbul Naval museum with it's amazing facts, history and objects that exhibited here is something highly recommended. The objects inside have hundreds of years old Ottoman wooden rowboats, ship models, figureheads, paintings, wood carvings, seals, and other objects. You can also see the Byzantine Chain (more than 1000 years old iron chain) that used to block ships at the opening of the Golden Horn. The cafeteria inside the restaurant is unfortunately disappointing with it's very slow service.

Spacious museum with plenty of historical exhibits. It’s very close to to Besiktas sea port and other transportation options are available. Historic boats are in a very good condition. It can be interesting for kids too but not for toddlers.

Outstanding museum to learn about Turkish and Ottoman history - even if you aren't interested in navies.

It's a larger museum than you might think. Very well-curated with most signs in Turkish and English.

For only 13tl, you should definitely visit this museum.

The Istanbul Naval Museum Or İstanbul Deniz Müzesi, was established in 1897 by the Ottoman Minister of the Navy (Bahriye Nazırı) Bozcaadalı Hasan Hüsnü Pasha.

The museum contains an important collection of military artifacts about the Ottoman Navy. In the maritime field, it is Turkey's largest museum, with a great variety of collections. Around 20,000 pieces are present in its collection, including the late 16th or early 17th century Ottoman galley known as Tarihi Kadırga, built in the period between the reigns of Sultan Murad III (1574–1595) and Sultan Mehmed IV (1648–1687), as evidenced by AMS radiocarbon dating and dendrochronological research. It is the only surviving original galley in the world and has the world's oldest continuously maintained wooden hull.

The basement consists of diverse items like figureheads, ornaments of naval ships, ship models, and pieces of the Byzantine chain that was used for blocking the entrance of the Golden Horn during the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453. On the first and second floors, a large number of imperial and other caïques are exhibited.

Many exhibition items underwent special restoration and conservation works due to the deformation of the raw materials caused by heat, light, humidity, atmospheric conditions, vandalism, and other factors.
