A place of great cultural importance! The upstairs is all about the bank and its marketing and operations. Downstairs they have a war exhibit. It's 100% free, too!

Türkiye İş Bankası museum, located in Sirkeci, was first established as a post office building in 1892, but when the post office building was moved to the current Grand Post Office building in Sirkeci, it was used as a branch of İş Bankası until 2004. In 2005, it was decided to turn the building into a museum, and it opened its doors as Türkiye İş Bankası Museum in 2007.

The museum, which hosts artifacts and furniture related to the 100-year history of banking, has become one of the most popular buildings in Istanbul.

Copying machines (such as photocopiers), money counting machines, typewriters, current calculators, kerosene lamps, guard clocks, telephones and telephone books, calculators from various periods, cold stamps, seals, tape recorders collected from İş Bank branches all over Turkey. , scales, personnel books, notebooks distributed by the bank to its customers, key chains, pens, pens, matchboxes, piggy banks, various plaques won by the bank, certificates of appreciation, honor books and trophies are among the most important works exhibited in the museum.

In addition, the museum's painting collection, which exhibits paintings by famous painters such as Osman Hamdi, Şeker Ahmet Pasha, İbrahim Çallı, Fahrelnisa Zeid, Abidin Dino, and personnel and branch photographs also constitute an important part of the museum.

This is a private bank's museum: the first bank of Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (republic).
You can see the history of the bank and banking history.
As there is a lot to see at the area, you can visit that in the meantime.
It's free of charge.
There is also a bookstore inside.

It is a beautiful building in the heart of Istanbul. You can commute by metro, ferries or buses to visit the museum. While you are there you can see the Grand Bazaar, Misir Carsisi, Sirkeci and many more historical and shopping sites.
When I visit the museum there was a 100th year anniversary of the Republic of Turkey exhibition. It was amazing the see the past also at same time it was very sad to see how we went backwards last 20 years!

One of my favorite museums in Istanbul. Perfect place to understand how milestones of Republic of Turkey has been funded by İş Bank which has established by the command of our great chief Atatürk. There is also a brief history of our War of Independence reflected as timelines at the entrance floor.

A free museum showing the history of banking in Turkey
The museum is free and in a historic building. However the text accompanying the exhibits is entirely in Turkish, making it a little difficult for non-Turkish speakers to truly appreciate the place.
