I came here on my last trip to Thailand back in May. Very beautiful temple and very well maintained. I was absolutely blown away from the moment I arrived with the pyramid shaped temple and the art work when you walk inside showing both old and new traditions. Definitely worth the visit and the views from the top are amazing too. Khon Kean is another one of my favourite provinces with so much to see and do. This is one province I will always come to

80 meters Stupa composed of 9 levels. The first contains relics of Buddha and 4 images of him.
There are stairs leading to the top. At each level, there is a peculiar center of interest - 4th floor for meditation, 5th floor as museum, 6th for Buddhist Masters...
The view point from the top over Khon Khaen is stunning.
You can easily spend a couple of hours there to visit all the stories in detail.

Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon

(Thai: พระมหาธาตุแก่นนคร) Kaen Nakhon, 'The Great Buddha's Relics' or 'The Nine Story Stupa Located in Wat Nong Waeng,' is a Thai royal temple of the old town. Wat Nong Waeng is located close to Kaen Nakhon marsh on Klangmuang Road, Muang District. Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon was established to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne and to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Khon Kaen province's establishment. Its thorough spire, Isaan fishnet shape, Indochina-Dvaravati Era Style, imitated Phra That Kham Kaen. Its base is a square shape of 50 meters on each side and 80 meters in height, where are situated the four-mini-Buddha's relics in each corner sheltered by a seven-head-nāga crystal wall.

Most probably the best temple in Khon Kaen. Enough space for parking. Sometimes of course a bit busy, but never too crowded. Make sure you make it all the way to the top 9. floor. Yes, the view up there is breathtaking but also one will be Buddha very close.

Gorgeous pagoda temple with a dinosaur sub theme. Visit on a windy day to get the full effect of the wind chimes that adorn the spire.

The climb to the top is not too difficult but don't expect the stairs to be uniform in height. The climb is worth it though, the view from the top is amazing.

Absolutely lovely temple, with few tourists, very rewarding to climb to the top level with great views of the town and refreshing wind.

One of the most famous place in Khon Kaen. Good place to make merit and worship to buddha statue. If time allows, you can climb up to the top of stupa to see Khon Kaen City panoramic view.

Stunning temple. There are nine floors of this temple and you are allowed to go the top! so that you could see a nice view of the city.
Polite outfit is required but just in case, you can borrow their sarong for free

The Great Budha's Relics is a very peaceful temple in Khon Kaen, so beautiful and surreal. was the 1st to visit while I'm in Thailand. so the beauty of the architecture hit me while I was there. it is a temple consists of nine story pyramid-like. you can offer coins for good luck and get blessings. it's said to be established to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Khon Kaen province's establishment.

My experience was great.. If you find yourself in Khon Khen, do visit this place. I went along with work colleagues, didn't go into the temple but definitely enjoyed the architecture, the setting and general friendly faces you see in Thailand. The sun beats down at you so do carry an umbrella, wear a hat and make sure to drink lots of water. There are stalls around the temple, you can buy snacks etc and if walking around is too much for you in the heat, there are tuk tuks also available.

One of the most prominent and most stunning sightseeing destinations in Khon Kaen is the Wat Nong Wang. This structure is considered as the most famous temple that could be seen in Khon Kaen, specifically in the southern portion of the city. Wat Nong Wang is noted for having 9 floors which show the richness of tradition, culture, and history among the locals of Khon Kaen, specifically the Buddhists and the monks. Each of the floors has a balcony where sightseeing tourists could witness floor mosaics that represent different animals.

Very breath-taking view of the city from the ninth floor of the temple. The temple is cleaned and have a spacious parking lot. Don't mind if you come pay a visit and forgot to wear trousers or long skirt - they let you borrow a sarong for free here (just don't forget to return it to the lower tier on the shelf 😊). Whether you come for praying or just strolling for a view, it's highly recommended.

There is a nine-level pagoda at the temple, and inside the pagoda there are several pictures that depict the buddism tales, and also tales of local heroes, heroines and the first Dean of the temple. The views and the sceneries are terrific at the top floor of the pagoda; however, all of those pictures are narrated in Thai. I don't think non-local tourists can understand them.
