By The Sea

A lovely hotel with a beautiful pool area. It's conveniently located for restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, and also just a few minutes walk from Makathawnee pier where the speedboats come into.
A water cooler provides free water so bring your own bottle. The drawback to this side of the island is the rubbish washed up on the beach, mainly plastic bottles. The hotels seem to do their best to clear it each day.

We had dinner in the restaurant several times during our stay on Koh Mak and we can definitely recommend. The interior is super nice, the staff very friendly and the food and the drinks are delicious. They offer good vegetarian options and even a few vegan options which is usually difficult to find. Would definitely go there again.

By the sea what can I say.. by far the best restaurant on the island. Other than seafood. ☺ we have the fillet minion with crushed roasted potato and. Greek salad the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was thoroughly enjoyed down to the last bite. I would highly recommend you come and enjoy the beautiful location and the atmosphere made through the decor the waiting staff whole speak Very good English are very attentive and of course the food.

Delicious dinner in a very beautiful setting. The waiter was very friendly and profesional with fluent English, very cool style too.
We had a seafood platter, enormous portion with lots of sides. The chef even came to the table with some recommendations which we really appreciated.
The size of the meal, quality of the service and ambience for the price we paid- is totally unimaginable in Europe.
We can only recommend this place!

Really exceptional meal on our last night on the island. My partner and I were blown away by the care and quality of the dishes, really lovely Thai fusion menu, best of both worlds. Chef came to our table to discuss the options for me for dessert- I’m gluten and dairy intolerant, we finished our meal with a stunning green tea creme brûlée. Topsy, our waiter, was friendly, professional, and had perfect English.From the wine selection to the service to the gorgeous presentation of each dish, we would definitely recommend By The Sea for a meal.

Very nice ambient and i recommend cocktail Mai Tai and Fresh ginger one ( i can’t remember what exactly name )the bartender said that’s his best cocktail he made. What impressed me the most was Nong Top. He is DJ. I like the music he chose. Once we started talking about the song and then I asked him to sing all night. If you like Maria Carey. He can sing every song and please don’t forget to buy drinks for him

Cozy restaurant just by the beach on the south of Koh Mak. Seats available both indoors and outside.
Never expected such a tasty and pretty food here. The fries were served with beautiful eatable flowers. The chef has got French background.. no wonder it is a great fusion of Thai and western!
Friendly staff which speaks well English.

Great stay! As the name says - by the sea. The hotel staff was lovely and very helpful. The location is perfect - very quiet yet a lot of places around such as food, markets, pharmacy or massages. The rooms were great and the AC was quiet. Would come back :)

Restaurant review “By The Sea”. Honestly it’s bangin’!!! The fried coconut shrimp were the best I’ve ever had, light & crispy paired with a perfect wasabi Mayo. Better than top restaurants in London and a fraction of the price. The Tuna Taktaki was great, the scallops were super fresh and tender with a nice chutney which complemented perfectly (and the presentation was fantastic). Edible flowers super pretty food. FYI the free warm bread and aioli was soooo good. It’s really thoughtful food here, with a combo of Thai classics and something familiar: Asian fusion (yeah I hate that phrase) when you’ve had 5 straight days of Thai food this was a perfect meal. The service (Topsy) and ambience was extremely good. Wine selection here also the best on the island I found, albeit quite a mark up. Great place. Danny (travelling from London)

We only come to the restaurant, been looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner and we were very lucky to discover this hidden gem, the staff were super nice, I order the “black beast burger” and was the best burger I ate in Thailand, AMAZING!! Order with truffle cream! My wife ordered the tenderloin and it was also outstanding!! We will be back soon to to this amazing island with more friends and of course to this restaurant!!

Hotel with great location its literally 10m from lovely beach with places to sit and chill. Pool is in garden also nice and hotel has its own minimarket opened till 22:00

3 or so good options for vegans. We had the pumpkin curry which was delicious. Nice place and atmosphere. Lovely for a drink or food.

We did not stay here but had a drink at the restaurant next to the sea. Very friendly service attitude. Keep up the high level!

Beautiful room, nice pool(maybe less chlorine?) it’s very European, I’d say after a traveling around Thailand it would be nice to land here and get a taste of home. The staff were really helpful. The beach isn’t great but that’s not the hotels fault. It backs onto a street where you can rent motor bikes, a few shops, food drink. Koh mak is an island where you can travel easily and this hotel is a great spot to base.

Stayed for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon. Everything was perfect! So very pleasant stay, highly recommended.

By the Sea has been our home away from
home for 10 days in March.
We loved the place and vibe right from the start. The staff has been incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. We booked the room with direct access to the pool which was perfect.
We had breakfast and dinner in the café & restaurant a multiply times because it was delicious. You‘ll find vegan options as well and the cocktails are a banger!
Needless to say you are right by the sea and a beautiful beach. Leaving this lovely place was very hard.

I have stayed in many places around SEA, including Thailand, and this is certainly one of the overall best places I’ve every stayed! We even extended our stay on the island twice and would stay even longer if we could!

The guesthouse is located „by the sea“ on one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island offering stunning sunset views. The rooms are bright, clean and super cozy with beautiful wooden furniture and great views of the pool with lush green plants around. The food at the restaurant and in the cafe is an interesting fusion of different cuisines, delicious and fairly priced, though you may also find tons of great options around the island if you fancy something else. Last but not least, the staff is incredible!!! They go the extra mile to make sure you have everything you need! There’s nothing they won’t find a solution for - They even helped me organize a little surprise party for my partner’s 30th birthday including a local cake with candles. All of them have such kind personalities and an amazing team spirit all together - including the German owner as well as the 4 cute doggies who are sweet and also part of the family!
We’ll come back for sure! ♥

Loved it! Came early for dinner and had a cocktail by the beach. Little disappointed the beach bar closed at 5, but the restaurant did not open until 5:30, but I was not inconvenienced in the slightest. The restaurant had fast friendly service and the chef even came out to check on the food. Will definitely be back and probably stay here the next smoky season in Chiang Mai!

The breakfast was amazing! We ordered the Caesar sandwich, the avocado sandwich, the banana chocolate smoothie with granola and they were all so delicious. Highly recommend this place to break off the normal resort breakfast buffet. Very well spent money

We stopped for a late lunch, no more eggs benedict, 🥲 - we had the pulled pork sandwich (way bigger than expected), very good and juicy 😋 . And a Banana chocolate smoothie bowl, super tasty full of fruits 🍉 (pineapple, apple, dragon fruit, papaya, watermelon )
They also have cakes slices. We didn’t try but they look really tasty!
