Bethlen Estates Transylvania

Absolutely amazing place, everything is clean, tasteful and elegantly refurbished. Great attention to the details. Nice location, close to Sighisoara and allowing sightseeing in Transylvania. We had a fantastic traditional dinner with what I thought were the best sarmale I ever had (and I have had plenty in my life) and delicious and special local wines. This all comes at a higher cost that what one would normally associate with Romania, but I found it well worth it.

Simply the best accommodation in Romania! Tucked away in a quaint little Transylvanian village, Bethlen Estates has been restored with the outmost taste, at international standards. The design, the food, the service the management are all impeccable. Couldn't recommend more!

Once past its somptuously marked gates with the Bethlen family coat of arms, every little detail is imagined, designed and crafted so as to invite you to indulge in comfort, culinary treats and the beauty of surrounding nature.

Each moment spent at the estate offered us a renewed opportunity for creating and collecting unique memories. We are grateful for the unforgettable fairytale we have lived there and especially for the welcoming and warm-hearted people who wrote this story in our hearts and minds.

A hikers dream. I stayed at Bethlen Estates for over a week in August 2021. First of all I slept like a baby; it's dead quiet at night and all the rooms are super comfortable and the beds are amazing. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating and I felt right at home.

I'm writing this review because the newly opened Via Transilvanica, a hiking trail crossing almost the entirety of Romania, passes right in front of the house. You can start hiking westwards towards the Saxon villages of Malancrav, Copsa Mare and Biertan (all stunning), or eastwards towards Sighisoara. Stunning nature, beautiful forests and fields. If you are looking for something "new", the Via Transilvanica is certainly worth it and Bethlen Estates sits right in the middle and is the perfect starting point for your hikes.

A wonderfully peaceful estate in the heart of Transylvania. Located just by Bethlen Castle in a small village called Criș, you'll find a growing collection of farmhouses that are impeccably suited for a luxury stay. The Caretaker's House is already open for business, with more of these on the way – and judging from the growing (and stellar) media coverage, and from just how perfect it is, you'd better book fast.

We stayed at the Caretakers house and all agreed it has been breathtakingly restored. The attention to detail, high-end finishes and character made the stay for our family truly unique. Food was equally fantastic. We were two young families with small children and the staff were very accommodating for not only the young kids but to arrange activities for the adults. The owners Gladys and Nicolas have done such an incredible job, it was a pleasure to stay at this truly unique establishment. Would recommend for anyone traveling to Romania.

The place is very cozy and luxurious in the same time. The food is great and the staff really friendly and professional.
What was odd was that for breakfast if you wanted eggs you should pay extra. This is something I didn’ t encounter in other places.
Overall very good experience. A place in the heart of Transylvania build with exquisite taste and an eye for details.

Unique high end authentic getaway!

We stayed at Bethlen Estates for a long weekend and had such a memorable time. Their chef delivers fine dining at international level with passion for local cuisine and ingredients. The rooms are truly designed stylish without ever not feeling cozy. Just the type of place that allows you to feel the rich history of the estate, while being spoiled in comfort yet never overshadowing the true experience which lays in the beauty of Transsylvania. Small tip, make sure to do their horse carriage ride through the valleys!

If you have the time for a chat with your hosts Betty and Roger your stay will be even more authentic thanks to their kindness!

The Best! Atat am de spus! Mancare extraordinara, aspect rural deosebit, servire impecabila, eleganta si ... o experienta de neuitat.

The story of Bethlen Estates, the beautiful properties found in the Transylvanian Criș, goes back in time. Since the Middle Ages the Bethlen counts played an important part in Transylvanian history as politicians, diplomats or scientists, building fortified castles, churches and schools. They were forced to leave Transylvania after The World War II, but the family has remained attached in time to the ancestral lands. As an already known story, the inheritors and actual members of the old family managed to recover today some of the properties and lands and started to build, create and dream. We found in Criș nowadays a different world: The Caretaker’s House, a 300 years old restored building, transformed into a luxurious pastel house, with four bedrooms, amazing details and furniture, original wooden beams, traditional stoves, hand-made beds, an elegant library, a luminous dinning room, an unique kitchen and the most beautiful and classic terrace outside. Then The Depner House, the one having the sense of nostalgia: a traditional Saxon heritage house, beautifully restored.

Povestea Bethlen Estates, a proprietăților frumoase găsite în Crișul transilvănean, pornește din trecut. Încă din Evul Mediu, conții Bethlen au jucat un rol important în istoria Transilvaniei, ca politicieni, diplomați sau oameni de știință, construind castele fortificate, biserici și școli. Au fost nevoiți să părăsească Transilvania după Cel de-al Doilea Război Mondial, dar familia a rămas în timp atașată de pământurile strămoșești. Ca o poveste deja cunoscută, moștenitorii și membrii actuali ai vechii familii au reușit să recupereze astăzi unele proprietăți și terenuri și au început să construiască, să creeze și să viseze. Am găsit în Criș în zilele noastre o lume diferită: The Caretaker’s House, o clădire restaurată, veche de 300 de ani, transformată într-o casă pastelată de lux, cu patru dormitoare, detalii și mobilier uimitor, grinzi originale din lemn, sobe tradiționale, paturi confecționate manual, o elegantă bibliotecă, un living luminos, o bucătărie unică și terasă, în exterior. Apoi The Depner House, casa cu sentimentul nostalgiei: tradițională, de moștenire săsească, frumos restaurată.
