Amazing. The interior is painted still and the outside is greatly preserved

Newly renovate situated in a very simple and quite little village. We were lucky to get there in October when there was the autumn festival held at the Malancrav Manor right next to this church.

Most unexpectedly wonderful experience provided by the priestess of the church (we came across her by accident).

Not only did we get the full story of the place (which is fascinating in itself), but we also got a church organ recital. The fact that the priestess was constantly referring to the parishioners as _the community_ made the entire visit a heartwarming, unforgettable one.

Amazing and marvelous old lutherian church from the 14th Century. Medieval painting unbelievable !!! An old woman will provide you nice historical information about the history of the church and the paintings. You can ask also for a local apple juice from a local Romanian - Swiss project. Don't forget to walk along the main street of the town to see real local houses. At the end of the road in the village you can see a Rom small community. Really amazing time to discover the real side of Romania.

Very well preserved medieval church with beautiful, vivid frescoes. This church has the oldest altarpiece in whole Transylvania.

A great village and church to visit. The locals work a lot to maintain the church and it has fascinating frescoes decorating the walls. The church and surrounding area (there is a large mansion just close by) are wonderful for a stroll on a nice day.

Top top top! One of our favourite fortified churches in Romania! And quite an experience :)

It was closed upon arrival, but the phone number of the keeper was there. After a quick conversation in (my) awful German the extremely friendly lady arrived and opened, and made a bit of a tour.
First of all Malancrav is beautiful and amazing, with a 130 strong Saxon community that basically lives in autarky.
The church is super nice too, and has amazing al fresco paintings.
And to top it all the climb to the tower is adventurous and the views beautiful.
Not to be missed!

Beautiful fortified church. Very well conserved. Is among the few Transylvanian Lutheran church that still has paintings inside. Very nice old lady hosts the visits at the church. Splendid view from the tower.

Even if it's not very big, the fortified church in Mălâncrav is one of the most beautiful and well maintained old churches in southern Transilvania.
If you get there and it's closed, don't hesitate to call the host, it definitely worth the visit inside. The lady who opened for us was very kind and she had the patience to tell us a lot of interesting thing about the church, the village and the community.
Don't miss the paintings, the real treasure of this church.
The location is also beautiful, near the Apafi manor and with a nice panorama towards the village and the surrounding hills.

Nice, quiet place, everything was clean and well taken care of. We found there an old lady that told us the history of the church. We were also invited to eat fruits from the garden.

There was no tourists but me.
An elderly kind lady with the key allowed me to climb the tower. While climbing, I was scared to death, but the landscape was terrific.

We walked in during our trip around Transilvania and had one of the best experiences, because we met an exceptional lady who explained to us about the church and its community. 😊🤗
