Classic style hotel with amazing service. Their buffet breakfast is amazing! They also had live music on the bar on the Friday evening which was very nice. And I could not thank the staff enough as I left a charger behind and they were kind enough to ship it back to me. The hotel has a private access to the beach so in less than 5 minutes you can be in the beach which is huge!

We had a week's break at the Vasco da Gama Hotel in Montegordo on the Algarve which was fantastic. The 3 star hotel 🏨 was really good. We had a large twin bedded room on the first floor easily accessible by the stairs. The room had a small fridge and nice power shower in the tiled bathroom with toilet and bidet. The twin beds were large and comfortable. We were on a half board basis with breakfast and evening meal. The buffet breakfast was excellent with hot and cold food and plenty of fruit, cheese and yoghurt as well as the usual bacon and egg. We took advantage of the Happy Hour between 5 and 6 pm in the hotel bar when drinks were half price with for example a cocktail and large gin and tonic for €7. The evening buffet was excellent, usually with 3 different sorts of fish and two meat choices freshly cooked. There were no children at the hotel when we visited in early March and the demographic was quite elderly. The pool area was excellent with large outdoor pool and plentiful sun beds which were easy to move. There's a pool bar and gym next to the pool area. We would certainly go back but the hotel isn't really for young families and teenagers like the town of Montegordo. The 10 mile sandy beach was great to walk on as was the wooden board walk with lots of restaurants looking out to sea. An excellent hotel and beach and the food in the town of Montegordo for lunch was cheap with lots of bars cafes and restaurants to eat at being competitively priced.

I was in hotel Vasco da Gama in October 2024. Excellent hotel very friendly staff. Clean rooms. I had a package with a breakfast and the food is very good with a wide variety of different types of food. Special thanks to the reception staff. The location of the hotel is perfect.

Great hotel, ideal location, very helpful staff and breakfast is high quality. Room lacks an iron but can't fault it, especially the sea view rooms

Very appreciated staff from Hotel Vasco da Gama
We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for 2 unforgettable weeks of vacation. The food was phenomenal and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Here at the Hotel Vasco da Gama I had the best massage in the world and was able to do a lot more for my health. The live music every evening was exceptionally good and the music encouraged some guests to dance. The hotel is very clean and extremely comfortable. You could relax comfortably on sofas everywhere. The hotel has a pool table, a social games room, a ping-pong, mini golf and a tennis court. I will definitely come back to the Hotel Vasco da Gama and I think it is actually a 4 star hotel. The Hotel Vasco da Gama was a direct hit. Thank you so much, Natascha and Alexander

Lovely elegant old hotel great position right on the beach room comfy and clean but could do with kettle and tea and coffee in rooms cleaning staff come every day and they are marvellous. Breakfast is also great and restaurant staff are also very good. However reception staff are unfriendly and unhelpful they left 2 old ladies who were delayed and got to hotel 11.30 pm to go to their room without any water or a sandwich or anything. These are ladies in their 80s who had a terrible day and were Hungry and thirsty although as the reception said it is not their problem I would think that in a hotel a bottle of water would be the least they could do as human beings. Anyway apart from that a nice place to stay

Simple, clean, nicely decorated room (322). I loved the mid-century(?) furniture (some nice pieces dotted around the lounge areas of the hotel too) and pop art prints in the room. The only faults were that the bathroom was a little cramped (which could probably remedied if the sink was replaced with a slimmer model) and the fridge could have been colder.
Nice big dining area across two floors and outside. Excellent continental/buffet breakfast selection. The freshly squeezed orange juice, pineapple, and the croissants were outstanding IMO.
Really stylish, large, outdoor pool and surrounding area. Water quality was excellent and the edges of the pool were very clean. All nicely laid out with lots of planted and potted palms and other plants. Lounger cushions could have been cleaner, but the loungers themselves were very comfortable without them anyway.
The hotel's mini-golf course could do with a bit of work (AstroTurf or similar would be better than the hard boarded surfaces for a start).
WiFi coverage could be better.
Friendly, helpful staff throughout.
Monte Gordo beach front location was excellent and all the local amenities along the beach were immaculate. The boardwalks over the dunes and all along the seafront were very stylish, well maintained and made accessing the beach a pleasure. A great selection of reasonably priced restaurants too.

What a Wonderful, Refreshing Change to what happened before this fantastic hotel that the difference is stark and gave us a much needed uplifting experience. I had picked an 'Apartment-hotel' close by originally, but after checking in and discovering we really could not stay there, we saw this down the street and wandered in to check it out. Wow! The front desk woman who checked us in gave us a Lovely, Ocean-View room at a great rate and an extra 10% off because we appeared 'distressed' when we arrived. We were, but that disappeared quickly.
We found our room, Loved it, then wandered around the property. We quickly discovered the Piano Bar and had a drink then checked out the rest. There is a pool area, mini golf, direct beach access, multiple pools for adults and kids.
The woman at check-in had told us the dinner was from 6-9pm and breakfast was 7-10am. We had assumed breakfast was included but did not get until later that Dinner is as well!
Dinner was a Buffet on 2 floors, upper smaller, lower larger and more choice, but also more crowded. There was a good variety of food for both Breakfast & Dinner and we totally enjoyed it while we were there. No dinner buffet is perfect, but this was quite good, and my wife is a Chef so we are 'foodies'.
You quickly start to meet people at these type of hotels and I became friendly with many in the bar and at dinner.
Hint- Talk to people! It is such a great way to find out what is good in the area.
After dinner we would gravitate to the Piano Bar, have a Coffee and Brandy and sit and people watch or talk to the other guests. All were enjoying themselves just like us.
The rooms are slowly being updated. Our's was a older room, but it was fine. Big room, nice bathroom, nice balcony overlooking the sea.
A huge a thank you to the bar-tending staff, restaurant staff and especially to the front desk team. Top Notch!
We will be back.

The hotel is over 60 years old and it shows in places but I wouldn’t change it for the world, if you’re looking for somewhere to rest relax and distress it’s the perfect place right on the beach great restaurants on the boardwalk for lunch, and the staff the best I come across in the algarve.

First time in the area ahead of a training camp I'm planning next year and the stay was fantastic. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Very comfortable rooms / bed. Recent renovations have obviously refreshed things. The hotel is a mix of modernisation and 80's 'style' which actually makes it very welcoming. Superb location to explore a beautiful area. Represents very good value.

The position of the hotel is excellent and the beach is outstanding. We enjoyed the food especially the dinner. We had an enjoyable Xmas dinner with live music and dancing. It is our second Xmas holiday at this hotel and it is value for money. Although the hotel needs some updating especially the common areas our room this year which had a sea view was better than last year. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The bar prices are a bit too steep but there is a happy hour.During day time it was a bit too noisy because they were updating some of the rooms but to compensate it we were offered free drinks at the pool cafe. The gym was well equipped but for winter holidays it needs an internal swimming pool.

Fantastic hotel! Very very clean and tidy. The pool area is beautiful and very well developed and maintained. Great you can walk straight out the hotel onto the boardwork to the beach. Didn't have a sea view room but the room was fine, free safe inside and plenty of storage, plugs and mirrors with great A/c too. Breakfast is nice, lots of choice and always replenished. Hotel is in a great central location to all bars, restaurants and shops. Overall a lovely stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend. Definitely more than a 3 star rating.

Loved loved loved our stay here! We had 3 of the apartments out to the side of the property. Short stroll to the beach, great buffet meals, helpful staff, nice bar with happy hour, everything we had was good and our trip was fantastic is a little too short! We would look to stay here again if ever near Monte Gordo or surrounding areas. The only minor complaint we could think of is out of the 3 rooms, one had a smelly fridge which we weren't that bother about. That's it! Everything else was so good even during the off season. Cant wait to go back!

We have been coming here for almost 20 years. The breakfast is great, rooms super clean, they've redone the pool area and the lunch is decently priced with good vegetarian options. Staff is incredibly helpful and warm. Special mention to Nuno at the parking lot who was super super kind and helpful

Within the three star hotel range this hotel is very good. Even for higher stars it is still very good. It is an old style hotel with refurbished and update facilities. Nevertheless it keeps the charm of the past. Very well located at the seafront. Indefinitely recommend it, especially the room 520 with double sized balcony.

After a week's stay, I can recommend this hotel.

Pros:
- Daily room service
- Direct beach path (100m to the ocean)
- Swimming pool where you can swim without glasses
- Close to restaurants
- Staff helpful but sad and unpleasant at times (understandable to me as they deal with all people so no offense)
- The hygiene regime is respected
- Food is okay, but don't expect miracles as it is made in large quantities

Cons:
- noisy rooms, headache guaranteed when someone moves the chair
- we didn't have a tour of the facility (probably because we arrived around 1 am)
- soft mattress in the beds, also feels old
- no cushion pillows

Anyway we had a great time at Monte Gordo.
