This is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining Portuguese fine dining restaurants we have been too in Lisbon. Amazing dishes and outstanding service! The desserts are a must!! You need to leave space in your tummy for their desserts as they will come in a dessert trolley. And the descriptions just make them so irresistible you will have to have them!
Make sure you make a reservation otherwise you won’t get a seat. Both servers are not only professional but they r also very humorous!! Ask for Antonio.

Amazing service, the waiters were very funny and helpful. The food was very good and portions were very large. If you are not too hungry consider sharing a main. The dessert trolley is out of this world, the almond tart was super tasty. I really recommend trying this restaurant, staff is passionate and they speak so many different languages!

Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and very kind and friendly service. It mainly offers old-school kind of meals (something your granny would've made :D), and the whole ambient is like that, even the name of the place translates to "the old ones". I especially enjoyed our waiter, an older gentleman, he was so sweet and funny, very prompt and efficient, and quite helpful with suggestions for meals and wine. Great english speaker too!
All in all, I recommend this restaurant 100%!!

This terrific restaurant may look quiet and unassuming from the street but immediately upon entering, you're welcomed with a charming atmosphere, beautiful decor and a large, well-lit bar at the rear. The service is friendly and the food is fantastic - I highly recommend the grilled sea bass and the monk fish with shrimp and rice. Great wine and desserts, too.

We dined here tonight 3/4/23. Was a great experience! We had the octopus and the beef in coffee sauce. Wow. The octopus was great, but that coffee sauce was amazing, never had anything like it. Portions are smaller, not American sized. Get an appetizer. Get dessert. For two tonight with a bottle of wine, an app, and 2 desserts was about $110. Worth it. I would go again. Plus the service is impeccable.

Fantastic food with an amazing atmosphere. We managed to get in without a reservation by going for dinner at a later time (9pm) and avoided having to wait for a seat as we’ve heard it can get quite busy. Would recommend trying the Monkfish Rice, Seabass, or the Steak Fillet with Coffee Sauce. Also the lemon meringue pie is to die for. The staff are super friendly and treated us well. We never felt rushed, with time in between dishes to relax and chat.

We had a lovely meal here and were well taken care of by a lovely waiter. I had the fish stew and it was very tasty and full of flavour, great with bread. If you want to sit inside then book ahead as the place is not particularly big and many were turned away, especially groups of more than 2.
Good traditional food, great lemon meringue pie!

The restaurant has been there 99 years! The roasted cod & sliced potatoes were outstanding (waiter said it’s their specialty). We took his recommendation on a bottle of wine & it was great, too.

The wait staff was fun, friendly, helpful & seemed to really enjoy being there - it truly made a difference.

Highly recommended!

What a lovely restaurant, with wonderful waitstaff, and delicious food. Antonio made us feel so welcome and recommended great dishes - the cod is a house favorite for a reason and the grilled octopus was so tender! Topped this off with soups for starters and a caramel mousse for dessert and it was the perfect the night.

We were recommended this little gem of a restaurant by a local restauranteur. Paulo and Antonio are front of house, these 2 are of course the highlight of going there to be fair.Of course the food is great and is of local tradition, but how from the beginning you step inside you are made to feel very welcome .
It's a small restaurant less than 40 covers and you must book as it is very popular.
We ate there 2 nights in a row, you must try the monkfish and shrimp rice dish,I could have had a bucket full of this!! And without saying the lemon meringue pie, delicious.
We had a fabulous time both nights and thank ALL the staff,we met the 2 young chefs who were so happy to be cooking for their customers. Merci beaucoup Mes amis. 😘

Delicious portuguese food. Highly recommended! First introduction to portuguese food and it did not disappointed. Tambori rice was otherworldly. The nicest server I've ever met

Antonio and Paulo were our waiters and they took Greta care of us! We came here because of several recommendations from friends and family, in particular from my uncle Paulo Lomba, and we are so happy we did!
The food is amazing and the customer from Antonio and Paulo was the cherry on top of the sundae. They really know how to treat you like royalty.
My mom said this is the best bacalhau she ever had and I enjoyed my ham and salad very much too!

This one of the best dinner experience we had. The lady (perhaps the owner) took care of us greatly by explaining and offering the right food menu's and wine choices. Food was amazing and friendly for both seafood and non seafood eater. Will definitely recoomend this place to anyone!

Our favourite place for home style food. The marisco (seafood rice) was the best we had in in Lisbon (by far the best in the whole city because we tried like 4 places and this reminded us of home!!!)
The male waiters have their own roles so don't feel excluded when they don't address you. The lady host was amazing, calm, caring and attentive.

[Update. 2yrs later while I'm stuck in Aus and can't travel.. I'm dreaming of this marisco. My partner and I talk about our visit here that one night on our short trip in Lisbon all the time. Give them a go! Ask the lady manager about their history if she's not busy and what she would recommend. She's lovely!]

There are reviews here about price of bread. Just dont eat it and you won't be charged. This concept is delivered at every restaurant in Lisbon (from cheap to expensive places) It shouldn't be a surprise. Also the prices are all written in the menu.

My wife and I have just had the pleasure of eating at As Velhas. Traditional and authentic food and a wonderful atmosphere. The service was as good as it gets and the food was superb. Slightly off the beaten track, but worth a visit. great value and great food, thank you, you made our day special. 😀
