In the Ribeira de S. João watersheds, among others, this amphitheater where the candal and its stream was lodged, nestled in the Serra da Lousã, in a hill facing south. Strategically placed by the National Road, which connects Lousã to Castanheira de Pera, this village is used to receiving visitors. The climb to the viewpoint through the inclined streets is rewarded with a beautiful view of the Valley presenting itself, where it serpents to Ribeira do Candal. On the return, the Schist Aldeias Store awaits them for a moment of rest.

This village is by the road therefore easy to access. This village is one of the six (if not wrong) xisto villages. There is a creek running through, giving vibe to the old village. It is quite amazing to see how some houses are build next to or over to the creek. Maybe for that reason, this village seem more humid than others.

A charming village, surrounded my nature. If you are looking to getaway from the city, this is the perfect place to do that. If you do not use Vodafone, you will probably not have network in this area, but other than that, it will offer you exactly what you need to switch off and just connect to yourself, whom ever you are with, and to the natural environment around you

Rent a car and get into Loudã mountains.
If you have time, look for the walk patches though the trees.

Beautiful schist stone village. Small, though has one place to eat.
Lovely to walk around- has ups and downs.
Has car access. If coming by foot- will gotta do mid level trekking for hours.
Absolutely enjoyable

Beautiful place. However, foreign ownership changes the feel. Some for good some not so good

Ideal schist village. Stream, swimming pool, old school, fountain, chestnut trees, schist everywhere. There is a nice roadside café & giftshop. Park on the right on the way out of village.

Wonderful place, few people, great landscape, old village, very well rebuild, great walk from Cerdeira to Casal, some steep parts, not recommended for small children

Must go! Drive or hike to see this sleepy town from another time, another place. Schist Villages are so darn quaint, hike between Candal & Cerdeira for the adventurous.

Very quiet but with nice trails for walking. It has also a community grill and a swimming pool with river water very cold.
