When me and my partner started getting closer and closer to the street where this plant lives, I could start feeling my heart beating faster… and when my eyes finally laid on the mesmerizing beauty of it, my life completely changed. Such an amazing gem in the most random street of Lisbon. I would definitely recommend you all to go visit this beautiful plant

Wow. We came to Lisbon as three cousins looking to reconnect, and honestly we’re leaving with so much more. Mind bending, breathtaking, a learning experience? This tree, rooted firmly into the street next to the aptly named restaurant “Food” was so much more than it appears on the Google link in real life. The time we spent here was special like the first day of spring, like the sun warming your face after a long winter. It felt like being genuinely free for the first time. Not even my widest lens could capture the majesty of this tree (and we were VERY wide). If you’re in Lisbon, see this tree, call your mum, tell your crush you love them. Live every second to the fullest. Thankyou tree.

As you approach the Historic Giant plant, you can feel the air crackle with energy, it's ancient and mystical magnificence washing over you. I'm not a man of faith but as the tree realigned my being, there was a sense of peace, of oneness with the world, insecurity and doubt replaced with a calm and life affirming knowledge that everything will be what it should be. Absorbing it's lesson's to not be contained and to break the mold as you watch it burst majestically from its tiny pot, you'll leave a better human than you were before. ABSOLUTE must visit.

This plant is THE most historic and culturally significant attraction in all of Europe. My 2 friends and I travelled all the way from Australia to see its majestic beauty. When my hand grazed its rough bark, I instantly felt one with the universe. Everyone in Lisbon makes a pilgrimage to the plant weekly to admire its beauty. Please consider supporting the plant as it has resorted to selling 2 for 1 mojoto advertising space to make ends meet.

Majestic and inspirational. The giant plant has defied the confines of the tiny pot in which it grew to climb towards the sun. It will outlive us all and generations will weep with joy at its splendour.

What we thought would be a simple potted plant ending up being more impressive than the whole botanical garden itself. I need to know more. Whose plant is it? How old is it? And why are people putting out their cigarettes in such a national treasure. I miss this plant already.

I thought it was a joke, I really did. I had recently arrived in Lisbon and was looking up sights to see (I didn’t have a lot of foresight) and came across this “joke” of an attraction. I read reviews seeing as it had almost 5 stars and thought it was sarcasm… then I went and saw it. This plant, this historic, old plant, rising up majestically from its potted foundation, changed my entire outlook on life. It stood defiantly despite its circumstances. I can honestly say I’m leaving Lisbon a changed man after witnessing this blessing of a plant. I encourage any and all travelers to pay it a visit and see for yourselves the life-altering aspects waiting for them.

And so we travelled 5482kms to see this very tree.
Sure, it’s got a small pot. Maybe its foliage is humble. But it stands tall and proud and breathes the very same air as us. In its own way, it’s a true symbol of our existence. It is making its way through life, one tree day at a time.

When I rounded the corner of the narrow street and first saw this plant I was struck by one thing maybe more than anything else: despite its obvious majesty, it is humble; It does not impose itself as other attractions of the city do, it simply watches silently as life goes on around it. I purchased some pistachio affogato with a shot of Ginja from a nearby shop and enjoyed it whilst pondering the plant, maybe it wills us to slow down and appreciate the smaller more humble aspects of our fleeting lives. As I left and the plant passed out of sight, I thought about what others had said about the plant, and felt a sense of appreciation for how this historic giant plant has brought together so many people from so many corners of our world and so many walks of life; each of us owing our own small moment of introspection to this beautiful plant.

Not only is this plant historic but also giant! We were really thrown off of our feet by the first glimpse of this marvel of nature. Sadly the locals have lost the appeal for something serene of this calibre. I would definitely recommend this highlight to anyone visiting Portugal for work or vacation. Just be prepared before you lay your eyes on this magnanimous beauty, the place has something divine to it and you suddenly feel small and meaningless in front of the historic and giant nature of the plant.

I’m certainly leaving Lisbon a changed man, having seen this wonder of a thing with my own eyes. Pictures don’t do it justice, you have to be in its presence to really grasp its marvel.

Wow! None of Europe’s other endangered Historic Giant Plants come anywhere close. It’s open 24 hrs and the entry price is free - which is crazy. The aroma, the color, the leafy elegance and the spiritual vigor of this mighty vegetation will guarantee that it is a place you’ll be sure to remember in your dreams and on your deathbed. An ideal spot for a marriage proposal, bris, christening, or graduation. Well done Lisbon, I can die a happy man.

August 8, 2023 14:34. This was the date that changed my life. When I googled things to do in Lisbon there were the typical tourist attractions that you can see anywhere- An old cathedral, a historic fortress on a hill, a marketplace that sells the same 15 things as every other tourist market. Then I saw it. The Historic Giant Plant. What plant species could it be? Why is it Historic? Why is it Giant? There were too many questions and not enough answers, I needed to see it for myself. The pilgrimage from my hostel to the plant was around 20,000 steps but it was all worth it when I laid eyes on the majestic fauna. For some odd reason there were no crowds of people surrounding the plant. Instead it was located in a quaint little area between 2 quiet restaurants; a beautiful area for a plant to grow strong without disturbance. When I approached the plant I noticed some of the branches have been trimmed which may indicate it was growing too powerful which wasn’t hard to imagine. I’m not sure who takes care of the plant but it looked well maintained and was well attached to the surrounding wall and tiny pot. Looking at pictures doesn’t do it justice you need to see the plant in person to get a grasp of the height and girth of this majestic tree. I scanned the leaves with an app that can identify plants however the app came back with nothing. Perhaps this is an undiscovered species. Seeing the Giant plant grow from the base of such a tiny pot seems to defy the laws of nature and physics. From what I saw my best guess for how this plant has grown so large out of such a small pot is due to its roots connecting to the electrical box attached to the building. I asked a local who worked at the shop next to the plant and he said it was magic. The only way to conclude this for yourself is to make the journey and form your own opinion in person. If you don’t see anything else in Lisbon see the Giant Historic Plant.

On January 1st 2023, at 12:34, my life took a turn. When I searched for activities in Lisbon, I encountered the usual tourist spots – an ancient cathedral, a historic hilltop fortress, and a market with the same typical wares. Then, I stumbled upon it – the Historic Giant Plant. Questions flooded my mind: What species was it? Why was it considered historic and giant? Determined for answers, I embarked on a journey from my hotel to witness this extraordinary flora. Nestled between two quiet restaurants, it stood undisturbed. As I approached, trimmed branches hinted at its formidable growth. Though images fall short, in person, the plant’s height and girth are truly awe-inspiring. Despite scanning its leaves with a plant identification app, the species remained elusive, possibly an undiscovered gem. The paradox of a colossal plant thriving in a tiny pot challenged the laws of nature, and I speculated its connection to the nearby electrical box. A local suggested magic as its secret. To truly grasp the marvel, make the journey and form your own firsthand opinion – if you see only one thing in Lisbon, let it be the Giant Historic Plant.

My Dearest Sapling,
This might be one of the most difficult things I ever say. Goodbye.
Thank you for being in my life (and being my life) for the past 5 minutes.
I know it was far from perfect and I fell way short (literally) of what you hoped I could be.
You were always so attentive, listening to everything I had to say, never interrupting me.
I will always remember the way your leaves fluttered in the breeze as I gently stroked your hardwood.
But I must go. You will never really spread your branches if I remain, and I too need more time and space in order to grow.
Know that I shall never forget you and will forever remain...
Your Little Weed ❤

Whilst enjoying a refreshing caneca of Super Bock across the street I found myself nothing short of mesmerised by the sheer testament to the power of nature standing before me. Instantly I felt a deeper connection to the universe and a true understanding of what it means to be a part of our magical world. Thank you Historic Giant Plant, I will never forget this life-altering experience.

I feel privileged to have visited the Historic Giant Plant. The pot was partially hidden by a chair but seeing it in real life was one of the highlights of my visit to Lisbon. I couldn't understand why people were taking photos of the other side of the street.

It is a magical tree of life. It showed us the tenacity of life. I wish every weak life can be strong and upward, like this tree.

Inexplicably blissful experience. If you travel to visit this plant, you may see me or simply my remains embracing its base (depending upon how long it takes you to visit). Like the ancient Greeks to Medusa, the Argonauts to the Sirens, or Lot’s wife at Sodom & Gomorrah, explain to the world that I could not turn away even at my own peril.
