Lovely place… even in the rain. Highly recommend to walk around! And is you decide you need a nice cotton robe or linen on even a Sunday evening, this is place to go. Enjoy!

Lovely town to eat and enjoy for shopping and visiting the old town, with plenty of restaurants and very good quality shops for household items as well as jewellery and clothing.

The fortress is well worth a day's visit! The history and architecture of the fort is very interesting, and the views of the valley and mountains are what stood out most for us. Such a beautiful place!

This is a medieval fortress designed by a French architect. It’s shape is of three interconnected stars. There is a complete city in side the fortress. There are several shops and cafés inside the fortress. This is a good place for shopping of cotton clothes and household items. It is a lovely place to spend some time.

It is a "magical" place. A day well spent visiting it. It's about the history, the landscape and views, the good restaurants, the many shops (not just selling towels) and the people....

Impressive construction, medieval from the outside, many shops on the inside: Souvenirs, towels and bed linen, antiques, restaurants, hostels / hotel, a little museum... Great view over the river and Tui. You can also take a walk around the fortress outside / on its walls. Lovely!

A large wall from xvii century. It's well preserved and it is plenty of commercial shops. Very kind people, nice gastronomy and the amazing views to Minho river. Do not lose it if you can go!!!

Fascinating military architecture, the fortress has spectacular views of the River Minho, good restaurants and if you want to buy towels - this is THE place

I was expecting to see a barren castle. I was surprised by multitude of shops markets restaurants coffee stores and souvenir shops. Definitly go there. But leave your car outsideof castle. Walk inside. Dont lose oportunity to feel old walls.

Beautiful day exploring this fortress . Plenty of shopping, eating and sightseeing. A total gem in the northern part of Portugal. Highly recommend a stop here.

Beautiful and historical fortress with an amazing view of the surroundings and the crossing to Spain

This is a must visit!
La Fortaleza is a beautifully conserved fortress of the "baluarte" style, the way they were built from the 15th to the 17th century because the older construction techniques could no longer withstand the newly invented artillery cannons.
There is a whole village behind those old walls with lots of shops and restaurants.
It is all amazingly clean and well preserved. Superb and authentic place to meditate on history.
Splendid conservation of an old fortress from 16th century. If you listen you can hear the granite stone talk about defeat and victory...

fort in Northern Portugal. On the frontier with Spain. Good, cheap shopping, specially for clothes. Paying parking available inside the fort. Restaurants from 12euro per person. Ok food.
