One of the two twin fountains found on the north side of the Rossio Square.

Adorned with various statues of mermaids and cherubs, this is most likely the prettiest of all the fountains in Lisbon.

Mermaid 🧜‍♀ Statues & Fountains at Rossio Square, Lisbon - There are 2 large fountains in Rossio Square (also known as Pedro IV Square) in Lisbon, each with 4 mermaid statues. The bronze sculptures were created by sculptors Mathurin Moreau and Michel Lienard, and were installed with the fountains in 1889 , at the initiative of a councillor from the City Council of Lisbon, and replaced two wells that had existed there since 1837.  They were created in Val d'Osne, France and then imported to Portugal.

Praça Dom Pedro IV

The Rossio is the popular name of the King Pedro IV Square in the city of Lisbon, in Portugal. It is located in the Pombaline Downtown of Lisbon and has been one of its main squares since the Middle Ages.

The surrounding places are historic and you will find so many statues and monuments.

At the northern end of Praça Dom Pedro IV, the main central square of Lisbon which is simply known as Rossio, is the gorgeous Dona Maria II Portuguese National Theatre (Teatro Nacional D. Maria II) and directly opposite the Theatre is this lovely fountain. The fountain is adorned with bronze sculptures and mythical figures including four mermaid statues. It's one of two identical baroque fountains in Rossio that were imported from France, and erected in 1870.
