This place was an incredible experience. A voyage back in time it allowed us to experience a glimpse of life in the medieval era! Great food, lovely live harp music and a wonderful atmosphere and toilet experience!

The place is authentic and unique. We were like not eating here because from far away looked like a place that needed some LTC, but then realised it was a Medieval Restaurant. The ambiance is wonderful and the staff is amazing!! We had a wonderful time in this place. The food was not what we really like, but the presentation was really nice. I recommend you book in advance so you can sit inside the restaurant and not outside in the terrace, even though it is also really nice outside.

What an amazing restaurant with unique design and lovely staff. We really enjoyed all time we spent at this place. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Food taste and design were wonderful as well.

It felt like we've stepped back in time and experience, a medieval feast like no other at this authentic restaurant! The concept of a medieval-themed tavern seem exciting, the food here was quite good, and the atmosphere magical making you feel like you've stepped into a different era.

Amazing experience! The decoration, atmosphere, service, and etc are all perfectly made to transport you to a medieval experience. The food is very tasty and creative. I recommend the royal banquet, it feeds 2 very well and let you taste several different dishes to experience their surprising gastronomy.
They have several awesome local beers on tap, that go very well with the food and atmosphere. They also have mead on tap :)

One of the most amazing restaurants I have ever visited. Unusual, delicious food prepared based on medieval recipes. I definitely recommend a visit to this place.

I was with a tour group and they added 2 tables for us to be able to sit us since no more tables were available!
Our adorable waiter recommended the ham hock and I wasn't disappointed, it was exquisite, so was the pomegranate cider!

these 20 and 21 /09/2023 . Coming from Bretagne (Breizh ☝) in France for a large Road Trip in Portugal , our 9th stop was in TOMAR 🤩 and we spent two evenings dining in " Taverna Antiqua " restaurant .
OK , the decoration and the staff outfits are there to convey the medieval atmosphere. BUT, the cuisine, the kindness, the atmosphere, finally everything was so goooood and original. It’s not the “real” Portuguese canteen that we used to search for , but it’s worth the "detour" 😚 As proof, we returned to dine there two evenings in a row. A cozy atmosphere where the guests talk less than they enjoy their dishes 😉😊 Everything is said! We enjoyed the famous two-tier platter with an assortment of samples of almost all their dishes. The “dish” called “ROYAL FEAST” “Taste the Best that the merchant has to offer”. Incredible flavors and almost too generous meal and for two at price of € 30 ! The wine was okay and not overpriced. Truly a deliciously atypical stopover at any level . Bravo, we would like to give 6 stars for the meal, the setting and the service. TOTALY RECOMMENDED AND DO NOT CHANGE ☝😊

What a special place right on the main plaza. We choose the selection of 5 dishes and each was very well done - along with vegetables and polenta. The meats were perfectly prepared and our favorite was the sausage in a dark sauce. We finished with hazelnut tart that was very nice. The sangria was well done and it matched the food very well. Special place for our last meal in Tomar.

Fun venue with a great medieval theme reflected not only in the building itself but the delicious food as well. Don't be scared off by the olden/gamey style food. Meals were well thought up and delicious. Staff were extremely kind and also donned medieval style clothing. Fun experience.

An amazing experience all around. We had the Royal Feast (Banquete Real) for 2 people, which included a variety of sample dishes from the menu, including venison, wild boar, chestnut sauce, polenta and other side dishes. The shank (separate dish from the Banquet Real) was exceptional! The house red wine was much better than expected. For dessert, the Rainha de Mirtilo (Blueberry tarte slice) and the Pudim de Avelã (Hazelnut Pudding) were pleasant surprises, as well.

The atmosphere was fantastic! There was a harp player in the dining room, which really added to the ambiance. Servers were very knowledgeable and friendly. At one point, I had to chase the servers down a couple of times. Had it not been for that, would have been an absolutely perfect experience.

Visit Tomar's "Convento de Cristo" and then dine at Taverna Antiga at night. An unforgettable experience in a unique Knights Templar town. Nothing I can write will do this place justice. As soon as you walk in the door, you know it will be an exceptional experience. If you love medieval themed, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend!

This was one of the best experiences we've had while going for dinner out. Food was Fabolous, staff super friendly and the environment... Speechless.. is going back in time with internal design and decoration. You will eat by the candle light (really only candle..). And to finish we even had actors acting like in the medieval times. Is a must go while in Tomar. Top

Lamb for starter, interesting taste. Asparagus was just tempura, nothing special.
Main dish rabbit and boar pie with apple purée - was delicious, highly recommend

The food was outstanding. Atmosphere is very calm, almost all light is created by candles. The only little problem - I think the waiter was a bit drunk. He did his best, but it made us a bit uncomfortable at first.

In my life I have a few top meals and this was one of them.
The honey mead was amazing!
I had the goat cheese and spinach pie which was fantastic. The accompanying apple sauce was the a taste sensation with cinnamon, raisins and walnuts!!
Dessert was cottage cheese and chestnut mousse! This was a creamy dream for my
tongue. Not too sweet, smooth and so tasty.
The atmosphere is great and they gave us a table with a heater and our little dog was allowed to nestle in under the table by my feet. There was a lady playing a harp and traditional music too.
The staff were fantastic. I am trying to learn Portuguese and they were friendly and helpful. They have english menus, but I asked my waiter for his recommendation and he was spot on(vegetarian).
The prices were good for a fancy evening out.

This was probably the best medieval-themed restaurant that I’ve ever been to!! Not only were the vibes great (the waiters were dressed as peasants and the tables were lit by candles), but the food was soooooo delicious. If I’m ever back in Portugal, I’d drive all the way back to Tomar just for this restaurant.

Amazing place!
We went out of season, but we still had to make a reservation one day before. This place has a huge potential! The food is great, the decoration is great, the staff again is great. Ah and they have a "trocador" for babies.
You can order hidromel and sangria. Very good both of them!

I believe nothing I'll write can do this place justice really... If you're into medieval-themed places then you'll just love it. The decoration and atmosphere is simply spot-on, showing plenty of attention to detail (guess I got lucky and there was even a lady playing the harp live the evening I was there). The food is fantastic and the staff is very friendly. Make sure to book ahead because this place is frequently crowded. Very easy recommendation, looking forward to visit again!

Very nice place with interesting variety of meet, one of the best place I visited in Portugal, also cool cons: parking in 20m from restaurant, highly recommend chestnut soup and pie with vegies and goat cheese🤩
