Long story short:
I was diagnosed with multiple and severe herniated discs 2 years ago. Due to my age, Dr. Mella did not want to perform surgery right away. I wasn’t in a lot of pain, too, and if I was, I would go right away to Dr. Ramiro, my physiatrist (thank you as always to CDUH’s wonderful PTs as well!). However, last Wednesday, during our online session, my pain score went from 3/10 the previous night to a 10/10. I was rushed to the Emergency Room of VCMC (thank you to my personal doctor haha my ate and the VCMC nurses and resident doctors for giving me a pain reliever which I, unfortunately, was allergic to 😂). I was supposed to have an emergency operation last Thursday but I was able to empty my bladder so my operation was moved to Friday, started at 6:30 pm and ended at around 1:30 am last Saturday. I cannot believe I survived the 6-hour surgery with all the tusok and talaw.

I have been having back and side pain for a while and when I got and MRI of my abdomen, the initial findings that there could be something wrong with my spine. I was then referred to Dr. Pierre Mella, who recommended an MRI specific to my spine. After he read the results of my MRI and the results of all my other laboratory tests, he was able to have and initial diagnosis which was tuberculosis of the spine that had already led to bone destruction and had created "lesions" in the nearby psoas muscle. He immediately recommended a surgery (posterior decompression, instrumented fusion and open biopsy) in order to avoid further damage. He assured me and my family of a smooth operation and I was already able to sit, stand and walk, 1-2 days after my surgery! He also recommended post-surgery medication to help with any remaining pains. I am a living witness of his expertise in this field. My family and I would like to thank Dr. Mella for being such a good and considerate doctor, and to his team for being very approachable!

I went to Dr.Pierre Mella for a second opinion because i wasn't satisfied with my first ortho. With Doc Mella he is very understanding and listens to your concerns.He takes time with the patient to help them with their health issues. He is a great doctor! I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a specialist.

Dr. Mella was very helpful in making decisions on my treatment, and the cost was much lower than in Manila area. I had a good result on my lower back, and now plan to do something for my neck! He is pretty conservative in general and only does procedures which will benefit patients and not cause irreparable damage. The UC center in Cebu was much nicer than visiting Manila area clinics!

I had an accident and had 2 hair line fructures on my left ankle. I immediately called Dr. Pierre Mella and he answered. From the moment i called him he was monitoring my condition. He later on had me take xrays to determine the damage. He explained to me exactly and told me what he eill have to do. In short, Dr. Mella made me feel calm and what I like is that he explains to you. He takes time and is not one of those doctors who are always in a hurry. He is very courteous and accommodating. Dr Mella went above and beyond the call of duty when I fell seriously ill abroad. Hi I'm Cristina Sentillas Gorgonia, and i want to share my experience of how Doctor Pierre Mella helped me get through a complication that would have changed my life.
At first, i just felt a mild pain in my side and back, at first i thought it was just a casual "trapped wind" but a month has passed and the pain and discomfort was still lingering thus i went to an arthritis doctor, the doctor requested an abdomenal ultrasound, the results were normal. Another month has passed, there was no change in my condition, i consulted a Nephrologist, and the result was still normal, Another month again has passed, i referred to another doctor, but it was still the same, until i met Dr. Peirre Mella, he was the one who figured out my condition. His first finding was Spinal Tuberculosis, then he requested me to take an X ray and MRI test and a conclusion was reached, i needed an immediate operation since my condition was quite severe but i was scared, if i chose not to take the operation, I would never be able to walk again but Dr. Pierre Mella was the one who encouraged me to be courageous, so with the help of his inspiring words and his assurance that everything will be fine, i took the operation, and with God's help, it was successful. To those patients who also needs to undergo operations, i advise you to not be scared, just trust God and Dr. Pierre Mella. I'm really thankful to you Dr., God bless you.

I am really grateful to Dr. Pierre Mella for his timely help and treatment. My father hurt his wrist accidentally two days ago. Then he always felt hurt, couldn’t sleep well and today his wrist was swollen seriously. When contacting Dr. Pierre Mella, he said it was serious and he immediately arranged him to get X-ray, and then he opened clinic room just for him, explained his wrist fracture to us very patiently and gave him adequate treatment even though today is holiday. At first we thought it was difficult to make this issue solved in time cuz these days are during holiday, thanks to doctor my father can finally feel less painful.

doctor pierre as well as the staffs are very accomodating. My husband had a minor surgery last nov.22 and doctor pierre really took good care of him. He took the initiative so that my husband could have the operation on that day. Knowing that there were no available operating rooms. I really thank him for his good service and for doing his best. I am btw a cancer patient, had prior spine surgery in Jan 2019 w an attempt to excise the tumor however in the OR Theater it was found to have diffused, so they only took a sample and ran biopsy w final histopath that came out Diffused Astrocytoma Grade 2 at level of T2-T6. After the first spine surgery, i told myself never to go thru the same agony but the numbness and pain has become more debilitating and other neurologic signs and symptoms were progressing that i lost strength on contralateral leg and started to have trouble w bladder and bowel control. I had no choice but to look for a 2nd opinion and my encounter w Dr Mella was such a blessing. During my first visit i was told to have an MRI spine comparison and on my 2nd visit it was discussed that tumor was growing and spine has become so stretched as the tumor occupies most space of the spinal canal wc explains the worsening neurologic signs and symptoms. He was so straight forward and quick to give me options to either do nothing and wait for disease to progress and eventually will get paralyse or remove tumor w 90% chance of getting paralyse, worse w lost of bladder and bowel control but stop the progression of cancer and get 10% chance of getting back my strenght and walk again. It was truly hard for me and my family to decide but he clearly presented to me the plan and that he will be working w team of experts and will be using Neuro monitoring wc will guide then when they’re going near the spine and nerves... I had no choice but to go thru the whole process again and honestly i woke up in the OR w a feeling i just woke up from a deep sleep w pain that was bearable, and the best part of this experience is that they were able to remove most of the tumor and did not touch any nerves that right after surgery i was able to wiggle big toes and other toes, 2 days post-op was able to sit and stand in place and later that afternoon i marched near my bed. Today marks the 15th day post surgery, wound is clean and dry, starting to walk few steps, and i must say that i feel better than i was feeling yesterday and this is coz of Dr Mella and his team of experts enough for their dedication to help a patient remain functional in his lifetime.
