Visited August 2022;

Words on a page cannot prepare you for one of the most beautiful and remarkable places in Perù, some would argue on earth. The natural valley(s) with the remnants of a civilisation that we still cannot comprehend through a modern lense.

From an architectural viewpoint the remaining walls and structures equal that of Machu Picchu. The stone masons of the Inca age seem to me magicians - the reality being that they were master craftsmen. Take time to look at how the structures have been put together, the ultimate 3-D jigsaw puzzle.

An amazing place and a once in a lifetime experience.

I mean, what can I say that hasn't been said? The landscapes and scenery are gorgeous. Breathtaking, actually, and I say that without being dramatic. If you're in Cusco, there is much more to see and do than Machu Pichu (no shade) and the Sacred Valley is one of those things.

Please understand that the entire valley is huge and if you want to see it all, you'll likely need to take a week or more to catch all the sights. I stopped by Pisac, the Salt Marshes, the Sun Temple, and Ollantatytambo. All amazing (check out my photos below) and definitely worth the trip. You will need a car or bus to move from location to location. Walking is not recommended, unless you plan for that to be your trip.

There are daily, weekly, and monthly passes. If you're not Peruvian, you will be charged a little more, so expect that.

I'd recommend packing a sun hat, sunscreen, water, and a nice winter coat. Even on a sunny day, if you step into the shade you'll feel the chill and there were definitely a few breezes when I visited.

There are several street vendors selling food, clothes, ornaments, etc (while you're in the more modern built up town areas I mean) and you can haggle with them as you wish.

All in all, more than worth the trip and I can't wait to return.

Underrated little town that sits at the junction between cusco and machu picchu. I would recommend at least one night of stay here to explore the ruins, the pizza, and the amazing vibe of this little town

Make sure to get a guide to learn and soak in everything about this beautiful location. A good amount of walking parking sucks so a guide who knows the area will make it better.

This Valley has it all, creature comforts of amazing dining if you choose carefully, cozy boutique hotels that again you need to research, to little explored gorgeous HIGH altitude Valleys where extremely hearty Andeans live at 13,000 ft.in small UNTOUCHED villages herding and weaving. Think out of the box and try DIY travel if you want to explore some little known places in the Valley. Do your own research, look at a map, hire a guide and tell them where you want to go, maybe rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle to drive yourself, but be safe! There are Ruins everywhere in this gem of a Valley, and Inca trails that lead all the the way to Machu Picchu.

I think sacred valley is a great trip to make if you are in Cusco and have a bit of time after going Machu Picchu. It’s worth it and some of the sites in this trip are out of this world. Explains why humans explored so much before they decide to settle in certain spots.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas, or the Urubamba Valley, is a valley in the Andes of Peru, north of the Inca capital of Cusco. It is located in the present-day Peruvian region of Cusco. In colonial documents it was referred to as the "Valley of Yucay." The Sacred Valley was incorporated slowly into the incipient Inca Empire during the period from 1000 to 1400 CE. The Sacred Valley is a major tourist destination. In 2013, 1.2 million people, 800,000 of them non-Peruvians, are estimated to have visited Machu Picchu, its most famous archaeological site. Many of the same tourists also visited other archaeological sites and modern towns in the Sacred Valley. Stretching from Pisac to Ollantaytambo, this fertile valley is irrigated by the Urubamba River. The Chanapata civilization first utilized this area starting at around 800 BCE because of the rich soil used for agriculture. The Qotacalla civilization lived in the Sacred Valley from 500 to 900 CE The Killke civilization then lived in the Sacred Valley from 900 CE until the Incan Empire took over the region in 1420. The Incan Empire ruled this area until the arrival of the Spanish.

Beautiful part of the world. The cool, dry weather is perfect for sleeping with the windows open. There are also many places that offer Ayahuasca retreats, which may change your life forever. The 7 days I spent at the Arkana retreat in The Sacred Valley opened my mind and changed my spiritual being.

Or pay a good recommended agency or do it yourself, you can also contract a private tour. Don't pay a cheap 50( agency) , 70 soles ( in your hotel) tour to take you to the sacred valley. They promise a tour and the "Guide" just will explain in the archaeologic areas, the most of the trip they just will name one or two places, or they will not explain ANYTHING!!! . I took a "tour" in the main plaza and it happened!!! Besides they make you run... Take a bus and do it yourself...do it in your own pace!! Ollantaytambo and Pisac were impressive and believe me you will wish to stay there more time than a regular "Tour" offer you.
