As much as the history, religious and cultural significance this divine temple holds, the monument itself is also awe-inspiring. The architectural design of the temple will make you stop and wonder for a while. Additionally, you can experience a wonderful view of the concrete jungle that lies below the temple.

Atman is Brahman, all pervading. The body falls off. Or is Atman only inside Nepali people? I'm sure this temple is wonderful but I am not allowed in. The shrines outside and the architecture are great

The Bagh Bhairab temple is located near the centre of the peanut-shaped hill that defines Kirtipur and forms the beating heart of the district's religious community. It is the only temple in the Kathmandu valley dedicated to the "Tiger" form of Bhairav, which is manifested in the form of a small clay tiger that is remade every 15-25 years as the old image grows fragile. Although the site is most notable for its massive three-story temple tower (rectangular, like all Bhairav temples), its grounds house numerous smaller shrines housing various images, some dating back to as early as the 3rd-4th centuries.

The age of the temple is not known with any certainty. According to Shrestha, the site's oldest inscription dates to 1503 and is found on the Mana Binayak shrine in the temple's front courtyard. Hutt notes that the main building was present in something like its current form as early as 1515, as records indicate a restoration in that period. He also notes that the temple's founding may extend back to the reign of King Shivadeva III (1099-1126), the founder of Kirtipur, but this remains to be supported by archaeological evidence (the single reference to this date is from a local chronicle).

Must visit place if you are around Kirtipur. Its one of the oldest temples of the Kathmandu valley (famous as city of temples). From the temple, you can see clear views of the Himalayan Mountain range and Kathmandu on a clear day. Please look at the inscriptions and the temple architecture too. Splendid work of Art.

Wow, this temple is the best place to look at Kathmandu valley from a high altitude... This place is really quite which is good for reading books and chilling with friends. Sadly due to the latest pandemic, the public toilets has been closed and international tourists cannot enter the main temple or click pic inside that main temple. The sites are facinating though.

At the height of Kirtipur, this temple stands the mightiest.
It has its own important religious significance. In addition, you get amazing view of Kathmandu Valley and the place has proper sanitation and management too. You can take your vehicle right at it door and park there too.

Also you may opt in for small walk through stairs.

Baghbhairab temple is very famous temple in kirtipur valley. It has very historic and ancient stories. You can see different war weapons during the time of Prithvi Narayan Shah reunion of great nepal. The three strorey temple was built by the king shivadev iii in 16th century. Beautifully built with rich ancient architecture and lots of beliefs. Different jatras, followers, guthis, and culture made this beautiful temple alive.
The big bang bell placed behind the temple make the temple more attractive. but you cannot bang the bell as it has its own time and value and the ritual timing. you have to come on at Bhadra 1st ( bagh bhairab jatra) to hear the sound of the bell.
The most important of this place is you can see the beautiful kathmandu valley from this place.
After visiting the temple for around 30-40 mins you can visit the uma maheshwor temple at the top of kirtipur valley and have a great taste of newari food and cusine in nearby cultural restura like LAHANA, SA:SA, Heritage home restura etc
Just come visit to kirtipur and have a great time.

Wooo, I can't define its cultural aspects. This Temple consists of its own moral values on the culture of Hindus especially for Newari community. The holly temple is situated on the top of Kirtipur valley likewise we can see this temple from kathmandu valley also. Bagh Vairab is also known as one of the most powerful god in Hindu religion and many people visit here every day. Besides that, the view of kathmandu valley from this temple is very nice. Visit once..

Bagh Bhairab is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva in the form of a Tiger. This three-storey temple was built in the 16th century.According to Chirhi Babu Darshandhari, who is currently looking after the temple, there is an interesting mythical story about Bagh Bhairab.

Narrating the story he shared, “There was a shepherd who was grazing his herd of sheep. As his sheep were grazing, he started to build a sculpture of a tiger using soil and water. He went in search for a leaf to use it as its tongue. He asked the tiger’s sculpture to look after his sheep until he returns. However, when the shepherd returned, all of his sheep were gone. Upon inquiring, the tiger just opened his mouth indicating he feasted on them.”
The shepherd then cursed the tiger to never be able to close his mouth again, hence, the reason why the statue of Lord Bagh Bhairab in the temple has an open mouth and without a tongue, as per Darshandhari.

Such a great place to be to get some fresh air and relaxing view of Kathmandu valley. It's located in the heart of kirtipur, a small town made on a single rock. This temple holds a great historical and cultural importance. The temple area is quite big ans consisting many small temples within the area. The whole area is covered by artistic buildings and small temples of other hindu gods and goddesses also lord Buddha's statues can be observed. We can also see some traditional weapons hanged on top of the main temple. The main temple is of lord bhairav, which is one of the god of war in Hinduism. It is believed that every newari ancestors from kirtipur used to worship at this temple before heading to the war, and even their families used to worship for their good luck, strength, prosperity and safety. And after they return from war they used to keep the weapons used in war in that temple, declaring victory and enjoying with the god. This temple is located at such a peaceful community and on a height. Usualy newari locals could be observed everyday around here. I don't know about it but I've heard only Hindus are allowed to pray in the main temple. But this is not necessarily true that none other religious people could get into the temple. Everyone is welcomed.
