Located on ilam highway as you pass kanyam, the temple draws huge crowds of devotee both from India and Nepal... though the path is quite steep at some places, it's about 2kms upstairs from the main road, but the temple committee has been constructing stairs for the benefit of the devotees

A revered religious place located near kanyam. It's an alternative place to worship for people who are unable to visit the main Pathivara temple at Taplejung. The temple can be reached by climbing steep stairs for around 20-30 mins through lush green forests.

Great experience. Holy place. But be aware of monkey. They may stale your bags. And try to bring your own pooja set ( Flower, agarbatti, Abir etc) extremely expensive on spot. Approx 300 for some flower, 1 prasad and one incense stick.

Jai Ma Pathibhara!
The temple is situated atop a hill. The climb as well as the descend is long and tedious. There are two ways to approach. One is from the lake and the other is approx ½ km away from the lake. The entrance from the lake is easier as it meanders. However, at the time I had been there, conrete steps were constructed only halfway. The other entrance has complete concrete staircase. People over there said it had a 1000 steps. I did not count it for myself but it definitely felt more than a 1000. We took the lake side for entrance and the 1000 steps to exit. There are shops that sell offerings for the temple at the base and the hill top as well.

The temple of Pathibhara in Illam, also known as Sano Pathibhara lies in Hanspokhari on the southeast of Kolbung VDC. The temple in Taplejung and the temple in Illam are believed to be sisters, and the one in Illam is said to bethe younger one. Hence, the name has “Sano” (meaning small) in front of it.It also serves as a secondary route to Mt. Kanchenjunga trek. Birtamode, Jhapa is the starting point for the route to Pathibhara. It is around 20 kilometres from Birtamode and is easily accessible via the Mechi Highway. The climb to the temple for prayer consists of 1040 steps, making for a quick and exhilarating hiking experience.
