A very nice hike out to sea, you get amazing views of the North Sea, the Tata steel factory and Ijmuiden. Also various surfing and kiting activities on the beach. After or before hiking there is a selection of beach side eating venues and ample parking, though it is often busy and you may need to walk an extra bit.
If you go to the very end of the pier at flood bring a poncho and rubber boots if it's windy, and it often is, there is a lot of spatter.

This is a great place for surfing. We ended up coming on one of the strongest wind days of the year. Better for kite surfing than board surfing. It was hell getting past the break. This strip of the beach is loaded with fellow surfers and some great restaurants/bars. I would recommend aloha, the food is fantastic and they have a great selection of non-alcoholic beers, wines and cocktails.

It fun to walk on, but take care if it's windy or with high wave. You have a beautiful view on the coast. Big ships comming in and the view on one of the largest industrial site of Holland, Hoogovens aka Tata steel.

If you like the sea and like seeing big ships, this is the perfect place to go. Afterwards you can visit one of the pavilions at the beach for some consumption.

About IJmuiden
City in the Netherlands

IJmuiden is a port city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is the main town in the municipality of Velsen which lies mainly to the south-east. Including its large sea locks, it straddles the mouth of the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam. To the south it abuts a large reserve of plant-covered dunes, the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. The city is on the south bank; the north bank is otherwise a steel plant and Velsen-Noord. It is 10 kilometres north northwest of Haarlem which is 18 kilometres due west of Amsterdam. The port is a deepwater port suited to fully laden Panamax ships, and fourth port of the Netherlands. source
