Had so much fun there. I never knew people actually lived in wind mills until I visited. A nice quiet place with a rich history would recommend it to anyone interested in the history of Netherlands windmills.

Super cool windmill to visit. A local guide shared its history and how people lived - and still do live in these classic windmills from the 1600’s. They can pump water out of the peaty low lands into the canal as needed.

This windmill is one of two open-air museums accessible on the Kinderdijk site but only with a ticket. It has a different design and is well worth the walk.

This is one of the two windmills you can get into. The man who used to run the mill used to leave inside the mill. The family space and the machinery is on the display. It is towards the end of the park. The hop on-off boat stop is right across the mill.

If you are a tourist, like me, when you picture the Netherlands, you think of old, quaint windmills. This place epitomizes that vision. Incredible place to visit.

Fascinating account by an active miller who operates the windmill manually herself and lives in the small quarters the windmill affords her. There is a farm and garden too.

Wonderful place to visit and to be able to wander up to and into some windmills and to see the restoration project in progress. Great opportunity to witness life in a windmill and especially when the sails are turning. The new heritage centre looks superb so hope to return whrn this is complete. Definitely a place I highly recommend.

Rally worth to visit!!!
Problem with parking.
Good idea is to have bike with you. Its the best way to wonder around windmill area (its large) and get to Kinderdijk. You can leave car in Krimpen and get ferry to Kinderdijk.

Windmill set up as it was originally. Small but great to have a look around. Also can explore the garden set up next door. Recommend downloading the Kinderdijk app which has a very informative audio tour.

Nice place to visit and watch the actual still existing symbols of Holland like old windmils. I didn't actually visit museum but the landscape itself is worth seeing.

Even though it rained, we had a lovely time seeing the windmills and going around the museums. It was amazing getting to see inside, before going we had no idea that people really used to live in these while they were running!
The boat ride was the cherry on top in the whole experience.

A working windmill in a demonstration area. Get to see what they were for and how they operate. Fun demonstration.

So cool to see how the older mills work. I would highly recommend a trip here! I went in the winter but I’m sure it’s absolutely gorgeous in the spring and summer

Beautiful site, something that you really have to do to get they authentic expirence of the Netherlands. We visited from our trip from Rotterdam into Belgium and France and the boat tour down the river was the perfect way to break up the drive.

About Kinderdijk
Village in the Netherlands

Kinderdijk is a village in the municipality of Molenlanden, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. It is located about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in the Alblasserwaard polder at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands. The windmills of Kinderdijk are one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. source
