Visited while on a day trip from Melaka back in Feb. The Bangunan Sultan Abu Bakar is a landmark building and government offices of Muar. One of the more unusual things about this Malaysian building is the Neoclassical style and other European influences. There’s a very grand staircase leading up to the front of the building with a classically Neoclassical facade topped with the coat of arms of Johor Bahru in the middle of the pediment. The whole building is painted in a fetching shade of sky blue and white like many buildings in Muar.

The balustrades on either side of the grand staircase are topped with very European style wrought iron lamps that wouldn’t look out of place in a Catalan Modernisme building.

Constructed during the last few years of Sultan Abu Bakar and opened by Sultan Ibrahim. The building still houses a number of government offices.
