Really picturesque town square with restaurants, churches, lots of shops selling local or special hand crafted items. There are benches and a pretty water fountain. Make sure to get churros.

Now is a great time to visit. They have it decorated for Dia de Los Muertos and they have several exhibits that are great photo ops for social media. It's just a beautiful place to visit if you're here in Puebla. Lots of huge trees that provide ample shade and plenty of seating
You'll find a variety of restaurants all around. The kiddos really love playing in the water features.

The lively heart of Puebla. A beautiful park surrounded by impressive churches and buildings. Streets lined with restaurants and shops. Some interesting and talented street performers, too.

Beautiful trees and cathedral here. Take photo with Puebla sign. You can hop on a tour bus from here too. We went Christmas time and the place was lit up everywhere.

Walking around the zocalo during the day and night is pretty safe. The McDonald’s across the street from the cathedral offers one of the most beautiful views of the “Zocalo” without having to break the bank. All you have to do is buy something from McDonalds (a cup of coffee would do) take the elevator to the 2nd floor and enjoy this beautiful view.

Peaceful and clean square. A lot of nice Mexicans hanging out here. This is the starting place of the bus tour. Buildings look very fresh. I got sunburned so hard while sitting here too long.

Such a beautiful park in the center of the historic district. If you come in April the jacaranda trees are in bloom and smell wonderful as well as have purple flowers that fall like cherry blossoms.

A large central plaza that contains a small but a very nice park and is surrounded by colonial buildings on all sides. The park inside the plaza provides lots of shade and there are many benches to sit on. There is a nice fountain in the middle as well as a gazebo typical of Mexican central squares. Architecture surrounding the plaza feels very European. Some restaurants and shops around but also government offices and the usual church.

I have been here during the day and the view was good. But i went during the night and the view and atmosphere was even better.
The zocalo was full with coffee shops and eatery places, so you would never run out of choice. Highly recommend to pay visit at night.

Zócalo de Puebla is a wonderful park and a city centre in Puebla. This oasis of greenery with plenty of benches has a historic fountain known as San Miguel Arcángel, which was placed in the center in 1777. It remained the main source of potable water for much of the colonial period. There are four statues of muses installed at each corner of the park. Jan Hendrix's sculpture, Kiosko, is installed in the plaza, along with other sculptures.
Until the end of the 18th century, this main square was the most important market for the town. Bullfights were held here from 1566 to 1722. It has been the main cultural, political and religious center of the city till today. On weekends there is usually some outdoor dance and singing performances.
This georgeous place is surrounded by a hundred-block showplace of Colonial and Baroque architecture and extravagantly tiled buildings. This includes the City Hall, the Casa de los Muñecos and the Cathedral which is a masterpiece of Mexican ecclesiastical architecture. Also, one can walk along the paths, find plenty of restaurants, bars, coffe and gift shops, buy interesting antique art and exquisite crafts. Thus enjoy the culture and traditions. This place is safe and patrolled by law officers.
The local open-top tour buses depart and return from this location. They illustrate the history of the city both in Spanish and English. Will explain how this place became a convenient stopover for the Spanish colonialists on the route from the port of Veracruz to the Mexican capital. Especially due to its geographic location, favourable climate and the nearby labour pool from Cholula. You will find Colonial, Baroque, Mannerist and neo-Classical, all assembled in this small town.
However, we had our lunch here in a famous restaurant and came to the conclusion like many others, fortunately or unfortunately: that street food trumps fine dining in Mexico.

There are many restaurants here to choose from. All of them are very good and quite reasonably priced. The atmosphere is tranquil and laid back. An excellent place to spend a lazy afternoon.
