I loved this neighborhood family park and old fashioned zoo. The animals, yes, are in smaller cavers than the wild. But the caretakers work hard to take care of each of the animals. Everyone acted with upmost decorum. All of the very predatory animals are closer than I am used to seeing. Additionally, there are great food stands in the exterior park area that bring all kinds of unique tastes. Go see for yourself. Bonus everything is free! Except for the 5 cent train ride and snacks!

Wow, our day at the zoo was absolutely amazing! Witnessing the majestic lions and towering giraffes left us in awe. The highlight was the cool train ride – and believe it or not, it only cost one peso! Quality family time and fantastic experiences, definitely a day to remember.

Incredible zoo, especially given the fact that it is free to enter. Wide range of species that all look very healthy. I’m typically a skeptic and don’t really like the zoo concept, but seeing the animals healthy is a welcome change from some I’ve been to.

After viewing the animals we took in a little quad ride and some target practice with paintball guns.

Very impressive zoo and park geared to children. Entrance is free. Train ride is only 1 pesos, but there will be a line up for it

It's a nice zoo with a variety of animals, totally free, you can take a mini train that surrounds the zoo and its super cheap, only 1 peso. There is a food corner with reasonable prices, WC and a little stands to buy ice creams and water, they have an artificial lake and you can rent a boat for 30 min. Recommendations are always listed, please do not disturb the animals.

Great little zoo in the middle of town. It was totally free, and it took about an hour to see all of the animals. Recommended!

I was not expecting to find such a great zoo and will definitely be coming back for another visit. There was a wide range of animals with lots of great information about each of them. The enclosures were actually quite large and roomy and it truly feels that the animals are appreciated and well taken care of. Every staff member I spoke to was kind and helpful. The entrance is free and there is a small train you can ride through the museum for only 1 peso per person.

Most animals here were confiscated from private circuses and home zoos due to the nationwide prohibition in 2015. Even though the story is not the happiest, the animals here are in better conditions than before and their own health is under supervision of zoo keepers, zoo vets and animal biologists. There is a hard work behind those bars and hopefully they find a sanctuary with enough space or bigger facilities in other places. In the meantime, their life condition is the priority and they gained weight and are monitored all the time. Many people see a lot of species for the first time in their lives and maybe it would be the only time they could do that. The zoo requires a lot of resources for the number of animals they have, and some new baby animals are walking their first steps here. I do not know if they accept volunteers, but any kind of help shall be appreciated not for the money, not for the name, but for all the animals there. This planet is from every living creature which exists, so let's work together to help those cute eyes enjoying their existence. It is difficult to see both sides of the bars and it is easy to judge, but really, it is a big job to take care of them. Do not take me wrong, I appreciate any effort to make them feel and live better, and each of them has a previous story, for sure sadder than I can imagine, but now the pros are giving a hand to keep them healthier considering they have no other place to go so far, because natural habitats are not an option due to their previous learned habits. Maybe it could help if they have a real-life story explanation of every survivor living here. Culture and information will help the previous, current and new generations respect all the living creatures from an ant to a whale. I saw many animals I had not seen since many years ago. Let's keep on loving them, no matter what and thank the real dedicated professionals who also love animals for their essence and not for money. Consider this zoo is not charging any fee to enter, so the expenses are completely covered by donations and official monthly and annual budget. I feel life is full of catch-22s for loving, watching, thinking, thanking and wishing for the future best.

Although zoos are not fashionable anymore, this was a lovely place to visit. Big trees to provide lots of shade. Cute train that goes around the zoo so you can get your bearings. Lots of fast food options. Really enjoyed our visit to the zoo.

Free admission. We have been coming to Merida for 9 years and have never been to the zoo. We didn't know what to expect about a zoo in Mexico but we were impressed with what we saw. The animals looked like they were well cared for and had some pretty big spaces to roam around in. They even have giraffes, zebras, lots of tigers and lions, hippos, many birds, monkeys, turtles etc. Lots to see and it was very well cared for. There's a train running around the zoo for the kiddies and also a chairlift. There are lots of choices for snacks and food and there are washrooms on the premises. A nice day outing in Merida!

The cages a bit too small for the felines and hippos but still a great zoo to visit plus it's FREE ENTRY!

Be sure to try the 1 peso train, it's a load of fun.

This outdoor restaurant served one of the best meals I have had in centenario/ La Paz bcs. The service was great. Wine was excellent with generous pours. Owner would check in often but not intrusive.
AND it was reasonably priced. Will definitely return

Great little zoo for free! The stars are the birds and the big cats. Some of the pens are smaller but you can tell they work hard to keep them clean and the animals look to be in good condition. There is also a huge and very nice playground, a bunch of kid rides for about 20 pesos a go, and the train for 1 peso but ride early to avoid the long lines. They also have some good food stalls.. had the best torta ever for 30 pesos.

A nice way to pass an hour or two in Merida. Lots of shady paved paths to walk, and many animal exhibits to view. Not the biggest zoo in the world, but they have a nice range of animals present. And the zoo is FREE! Be sure to ride the train around the park for just 1 peso!
