The Tinmel mosque significantly damaged during the 2023 Marrakesh–Safi earthquake. Reconstruction works have started, see picture taken in February 2024.

The man actor in undoubtedly Youssef the guardian angel of this place.
Without means, without support he manages to give a life to this architectural marvel with his well-constructed stories.
A story argued with dates and without forget any event during contstruction of this building.
Bravo Youssef and good continuation.

Wonderful piece of Moroccan history. The drive to get here is unbelievable. The mosque is located where Ibn Tumart, the founder of the Almohad Caliphate, is buried. The mosque is currently undergoing renovations and we were told it would take about 18 months to complete. Unfortunately, because of the work visitors are not allowed inside. Still, it's impressive from the outside and, combined with the drive it's worth a visit. The cafe next door offers drinks and a simple egg and tomato tajine for lunch.

EDIT: Sadly mostly destroyed in the earthquake of September 2023. Hope they have the energy to rebuild.

One of the earliest buildings of Almohad architecture. Exceptionally situated, beautifully built, carefully restored. Mainly without a roof, you could consider this the San Galgano of the Atlas. – As the mosque is not in operation, fortunately it can be visited by non-muslims as well, alhamdullilah.

Amazing place well worth a visit. A good bit of the 12th century structure is still in race while some restoration has also been done. Absolutely breathtaking.

The place was nice and peaceful, the way from Marrakech to Ijokak (the village of the Mosque Tinmel) is quite long but also beautiful , about 2hours and 30 minutes driving, when we arrived at the door of the Mosque we thought that it's close (I don't know if it's because of the lockdown) but the holder of the keys lives nearby in his Berber house , his phone number is hanging on the door , you can also ask someone from the people around to call him . In the way you will find beautiful natural places like a lake in Ouirgan which was so charming , the Village of Tahanawt , the beautiful mountains all the way look so nice . Be careful driving your car and enjoy your time.

Beautiful, quiet spot, and perhaps the only mosque a non-Muslim can actually enter in Morocco (granted, this hasn't been used in years). There's a guide at the door who will share a little information, expect at least a 10dh (well-deserved) tip, and leave you to explore.
