An archaeological site located in the Moroccan city of Rabat dating back to the sixth century BC. It is located on the southern bank of the Bouregreg River and consists of a Marinid funerary area with Roman and Phoenician ruins, all fortified by Almohad walls. The Phoenicians established a market there and called it “Sala,” and it then became the site of the Roman colony known as “Sala Colonia.”

It was closed for renovations from the inside but you could still go and enjoy the walk and amazing views from the outside.

Currently closed because they are fixing things inside as it has been falling apart. The outside of the fortress is still impressive and a beautiful view.
A must see spot while in Rabat. Worth checking out and walking around even though it is closed.

Nice view of the city. You can see the opera and tower. The down part is that the Chellah is currently close because they are doing some repairs.

Loved loved this place. 100% worth the pit stop and entrance fee. Nice like Roman ruins with a beautiful backdrop. Tons of birds and beautiful plants through the park. This is a huge stage near the entrance where they host music festivals and events. Make sure to walk all the way around the park! Cheers :)

Closed right now but it's still nice to walk around. You can take a bus to come here from the medina. The views surrounding are worth it.

Beautiful!!! Please take a taxi though. My friend and I walked and it took FOREVER. And the taxi ride back only cost 20 dirham (2€ more or less). It’s a wonderful compound where you can see lots of storks nests and the ruins are awesome.

An interesting and historical garden with roman and arabic ruins right in
the center of Rabat makes this place definately worth visiting. It's very peaceful and relaxing to come here and be around so much history.

A historic site that is absolutely worth a visit. With 1000+ years of history, the ability to wander around -- and on -- ruins dating back to the Romans makes this an exceptional experience. Plus, it's a beautiful place with tons of flora and fauna -- including 75+ white stork nests. A must visit in Rabat.

Amazing! A piece of Moroccan history with a splendid garden, is a mix about a lot of cultures type! Moreover is full of friendly cats and elegant storks. The staff of the park is very friendly and try to help you to understand the history of the place. Moreover in the next future the tourists will can walk on the walls of the castle.

A Roman city wrapped inside a moorish fortified city - if you are a history buff there is nothing better.
There is an option to take a guided tour and some locals that offer; I would not bother and go exploring and climb the ruins. Not to be missed.

Extensive ruins that you visit that are inhabited by dozens of storks and their huge nest during the fall and winter.

The Chellah ruins are a medieval fortified Muslim necropolis in the coastal city of Rabat in Morocco.

It will take about 1 to 2 hours to visit.

Best tourist site in Rabat if you want to see green trees and ancient ruins. Great for photographers. Wasn't busy when we were there in December. I would try to go right when it opens so you can see it without a crowd. The plants and orange trees smell great, it's similar to a rainforest

This place used To be so trashed growing up . Although it has a lot of history in it and its beautiful to see. I went there after 15 years and they upgraded it and made it really nice . The entry for locals is very affordable and it's really clean with plenty of security. On a sunny day don't hesitate to go there for fresh air and nice views .

One of my favorite places in Rabat. It is quite far from the city center. But I think it is worth it going there to scape from the noise and the crowd of the touristic area.

At the crossroads of the ancient Roman, Berber and Arab civilizations. A peaceful place full of gardens, with 2500 years of history.
Recommend for everyone wants to know the history of Morocco.
