USA solo male traveler here.

It was my 2nd night in Almaty and I was still extremely Jet lagged. I arrived to SOHO at 6pm (18:00) on a Tuesday night.

I had Tom Yum soup. It missed the mark due to little lemongrass, lime leaves, and other strong spices. I do not mind fishy taste, especially, of course, if I order a seafood soup. A proper Tom Yum will mask most fishy tastes.

My main course was Horse Meat Medallions. They were fantastic.

My server was much better at English than he gave himself credit for. I told him that my gas tank was almost empty, so we agreed to fuel up on various vodkas, bourbons, Red-Bull, and Coffee. Ordering drinks like this made me feel 10 years younger.

I managed to make it through the live band taking stage. They were great.

One thing that I find very strange is that they have a weird obsession with The Rolling Stones. All of their TV screens played Rolling Stones for 4+ hours. At this point, the 4 hour repeat broadcast becomes tastless iconography. Stop The Rolling Stones fetish.

I speak various languages, but zero Russian. I didn't even have any chance to practice due to the trip being booked 3 days prior. Not many guests were good at English, but they were happy to try to communicate with me. Very kind people here in Almaty.

My new favorite place in Almaty. The best food I have had in Almaty, the live band was excellent. easy communication with staff.

I couldn't recommend any place above this in Almaty.

Great place for live music. They have some excellent musicians lined up here. My friend and I also went to watch tennis and they were very accommodating.

This place has a new name. It's Z bar. The owner is the best host in Almaty.
