Sanmachi Suji

An excellent place to walk through as both sides of the road are surrounded by old-fashioned traditional buildings.

These buildings contain shops of various kinds - cookie, matcha, souvenir, restaurants, sake brewery, etc. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

It is called “little kyoto”. Nice place to visit, aside from Hida Folk Village, tourist came to visit here. Lots for restaurant and souvenirs shop. Enjoy roaming around.

Takayama Old Town: visitors have the opportunity to see the oldest two-story wooden houses
Japan has its own unique characteristics.

A few blocks of traditional Japanese houses, residences, stores, and cafés. A lot of tourists of course, but it's a nice piece of the city to stroll through. I would recommend stopping by in the late afternoon as it starts to grow darker, as the streets are gorgeous in the fading light and you'll find a lot less tourists as well.

Make takayama as a part of your trip itinerary, you will not regret it!

Love love love this super cute nice small town. Get around here by walking is a must to do. “Hida” Beef is also must do here a lot. Tender and juicy. Many nice shops along the street : sake, miso, syrup, wagashi, cafes 🍵 Just dont come too late because they close quite early. Check and plan the trip right to enjoy the town. One of the most historical places we visited in Japan. Mostly, the shop closes on this street by 5 or 6 in the evening. But if you happen to see the stores open, the street is really alive. So much Japanese feels.
There are Japanese foods to try. And really, you should try. Souvenir shops are also open.
During the night, taking a photograph is magical. Specially when someone is riding on a bicycle. Should be added on your Japan to visit places. 🇯🇵❤

Very touristy but it's like a little mini kyoto (which is wayyyy too crowded all of the time). Has old time edo charm, cute handmade crafts, food, and sake. You will probably wait in small lines to snag a bite of hida beef or other street treats, but it really isn't bad.

Very nice and not crowded as similar areas in other towns like Kyoto. Full of street food stalls for you to try different things as well as sake breweries.

Takayama old town is a town dating back to Edo era. They preserved the old buildings in a good way that you feel you are back to that time. Mostly they are now shops, cafes and restaurants, so bring some money to buy souvenirs or eat local food.

I walked there in an evening and there were very few people on the street. So it was very calm and quite. Also it was beautiful with the remaining snow.

Although smaller in proportion, the smaller crowds make it worthwhile to browse leisurely the old ancient town

a quaint little town with a lot of places to buy locally produced food stuff. there is a rich heritage too, with 2 main streets introducing the little town. the edo period houses are also well preserved. shops here start and end early. the town has a morning market that starts at about 8am and ends at about 12 noon. the rest of the town usually closes in the early evening, at about 5 plus.

This area has an authentic japanese feel to it, with small traditional stores, great restaurants and a peaceful flow. It’s a great place for a peaceful day walking around at a relaxed pace.

Just like a baby Kanazawa. The lanes were less crowded than in Kyoto and Kanazawa. The shops were so interesting and forced you stop and try things constantly. Very picturesque and oozes atmosphere. Loved it. Don’t leave without doing a sake tasting and try the Hida Beef quail egg shooter and sushi for about ¥1,000.

Takayama is a city located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It's was settled as far back as the Jōmon period and best known for its inhabitants' expertise in carpentry.

It is a great place to go to see what old Japan looked like. Good shopping and sightseeing.

I’m still loving this place in 2023.
