One of the biggest US Navy bases outside of the United States. The cornerstone of the US-Japan Alliance. Taken in September 2015.

Spent 5 years here, stationed on the mighty USS George Washington, from March 2009 until March 2014. At first everything was very surreal and took pictures of everything! Then I hit a groove for a bit and then really finished out my tour exploring everything. I can now cross off many things on my bucket list thanks the US Navy and Japan. It was an honor to serve here and it was absolutely the experience of a lifetime. Get out! Explore Japan! Get lost! Don't take anything for granted or push anything to the side and say you'll get to it later. Time goes by so quickly and you'll realize, no matter how much you actually did, that there was still so much you didn't do. It's so safe, you can let your kids go off by themselves and really not have to worry about a thing. Japanese culture is so friendly and honest. Just be careful and don't forget to think about how much money you're spending, it's easy to pose track with "Monopoly money." I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get stationed here. You'll appreciate it so much when you look back at it.

Visited Family stationed there. Filled out paperwork ahead of time to stay on base and showed ID each time went in. Lots of kids playgrounds. Nice people. Cool ships. Great Launching point for Tokyo and Kyoto.

Loved it. 3 months due to ship repairs '95
Vending machines that sold hot cups of noodles, metal cans of hot coffee🤣 1950s style bicycles on base for people to travel from building to building, dry docks from the 1800s. Exploring tokyo. So wonderfully different.

Very good. Make sure you try to to break into the base through the north side, not south.

My home. Currently stationed in Atsugi and it's so boring. Atsugi doesn't even have a Pepper Lunch 😖
