Amaterasu Railway

My childhood dream! I would rate the train experience higher than Takachiho Gorge. Relatively cheap. Mini train. Old railway. Beautiful canyon and valleys.bonus tunnels and bubbles! Super friendly staff. I suspect they can only accommodate walk-in, no reservations. You can explore the train yard too. (Visited in Winter Jan)

Certainly a bit of fun for the kids. It’s about 1,800 yen for an adult and kids under 6 ride free. Ride is about 30 mins long and there is 9-10 sessions a day. You will likely have to arrive early to book the time that you would like to attend.

Suggest that you look at the website and plan your day with the session times.

At first glance looks kiddy but it's great fun for both children and adults. Good to check the weather beforehand to make full use of your time there. Thoroughly enjoyed the views along the way too.

It is a fantastical train ride! The tunnel roofs sprinkled with LED disco lights by the open air train, with a stop on the bridge over the sunny valley, gentle breeze. The train master spraying soap bubbles here so that people can enjoy the view with bubbles. Takachiho is indeed a very beautiful place.

The price is 1500 yen for adults. They accept credit cards also. There is a souvenir shop and a little museum. They have a time schedule for the train ride. I have attached the image of the time table.

Sightseeing train that goes over a valley and stops for about 5 mins for photos as the 2 drivers give commentaries. Ride last for about 15-20mins in total and was great as it was cherry blossom season and there were quite a few sakura trees along the track. Worth a trip if you’re in the area.

Very nice experience, recommended for those who like beautiful views and are not afraid of heights. The small train takes you to a bridge that is 105 m tall from where you get to enjoy the view on the town and surrounding mountains.

All the way, travel to Takachiho to experience the train ride. Passing a few tunnels and a bridge high up the mountain!

This is so much fun! The views from the bridge are amazing. I also recommend the museum, it was informative and fun.

OMG 😱 if this is not the most Fantastical 🚂✨ TRAIN RIDE in Japan then I don't know what is!! The Train👨‍✈Driver spraying SOAP BUBBLES for magical selfies, the tunnel roofs sprinkled with LED disco lights by the train itself and all this on an Open Air carriage😍, with a stop on the bridge over the sunny valley, gentle breeze keeping the Soap Bubbles dancing as we enjoy the view. Takachiho is indeed the "land of gods". BEWARE tickets start selling at 8:40 and you better go to the station and buy your preferred time slot asap or they might get sold out if it is a sunny day! They take credit cards, price as of November 2020 was 1500 yen

It was one of the most fun and unique experience. The train is an open one without the shelter. It will stop on the bridge for the scenery.

Superb visit. I did not know about beforehand but local flyer suggested it and in the end, it was the highlight for me in Takachiho. They have trainrides taking 30 minutes from 10 am til 15.40. It will take you to old railway bridge - the views are amazing. There are some extra nice effects to be seen also- I will keep these as a surprise. The old station is lined with cherry trees - gorgeous sight by itself. There are old trains, garrage, cafe, playground and many more activities while you wait for your ride. It is perfect for families with kids but even for us, married couple, there was plenty to see and enjoy. I extra want to bring out the passion of local people who run it. They do not have much English but the experience is also enjoyable without understanding any japanese

I was sooooo HAPPY to find this AMAZING yet beautiful spot and service. We're on the train and enjoying the AMAZING scenery. It's worth the price! I want to come back here

Much better experience than expected. The view from the top of the valley is stunning. This used to be a fully functional railway, but got damaged by a typhoon in 2005. It's been operating as a railway for tourists, providing a 30 min round trip to the valley.

Scenic railway ride across the Takachiho Gorge. It's an open top train. Center of the car is a transparent bottom. To view the scenery when train go above the Gorge. Light projection when the train is going through the tunnel. The station is not visible from the main road and need to drive into the small road to reach the station. There is a heated waiting room. The train driver will turn on the automatic bubble blower when it is high on the track above the river. It is an enjoyable train ride. Free carpark is available

A fun 30mins ride! Suitable for whole family and the view is nice along the ride.
