Kunimigaoka Viewing Platform

Breathtaking views of the surrounding area, an ideal place to watch the sunrise as many people gather. It is very cold so be prepared and good luck witnessing the sea of clouds!

We were here around 5.30 am on 22 May last week and luckily the sea of clouds appear. It was beautiful and the sunrise over unkai brings much peace. There were only five people there in total.

Great view of the mountain range of Aso. Go only if you have time to spare. Go early in the morning to see the clouds.

Beautiful place to have a very good view of surrounding mountains and Takichiho with clouds. But it depends on time. You have to go early(sunrise) to enjoy the clouds. We were late. That's why we could not enjoy the clouds that much because of the sun. There are also bench and swing where you can relax and enjoying the view.

Washroom available but not that much good. Free parking.

This is such a beautiful spot to take pictures. I’m sure a sunset or sunrise would be even better but my husband does not like driving mountain roads in the dark. Even without that it was gorgeous. There is cool swing at the top part (not pictured) and some swing seats and benches along the main part to sit, relax, or take pics with the view in the background.

Got there at the sunrise, and it was just gorgeous. There are already a few dozens of spectators before I arrived to see the sunrise. Everyone was so quiet, anticipating the first light of the day. You have a 270-degree view of the valleys.

View point for sea of clouds. It is best to view during Autumn season and in the morning. Recommend to go before sunrise and catch the sunrise. Free parking is available. There are several sitting and wooden log swing at this place.

Not a soul in sight during winter. Absolutely peaceful.

A great viewpoint for the surrounding mountain ranges. Mount Aso is also visible.

Great sunrise location too. Also, if you visit between September to November or if the daytime and nighttime temperature difference is 15 degrees Celsius or more, you may be rewarded with the view of a magical sea of clouds as you view the sunrise.

Amazing views and free to enter. If you have a car, I highly recommend checking this place out.

Nice place to have a very good view of surrounding mountains and Takichiho. You're supposed to see a kind of sea of clouds but it depends on time (we were not lucky). There are also bench and swindle chairs where you can relax and chill enjoying the view. Recommended.

What an amazing experience, the view was absolutely beautiful!! I highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the recycling Buddha on a clear day... If you don't know what I am talking about please do some research on this topic. Love the view...

Very nice. Best to go in morning (~4:30/5:00) or in evening (~19:30). No busses go here so you can take an hour hike from takachiho or sign up for the tour bus at takachiho station which will pass by here.

For optimal views, definitely go early in the day. The views are great regardless and it’s a good place to visit on the way to and from the gorge nearby.
