Beautiful temple. It's the same temple as in 10 yen coin. Admissions cost 700 yen. Modern museum with beautiful artifacts inside. Can't take photos inside museum. Can't use 1 day Kyoto pass. So I have to pay extra using icoca card from Kyoto station. Lots of green tea shop nearby.

The temple and surrounding area is really pretty.
We went there during Sakura season.
The waiting time for the Phoenix hall was too long so we did not enter.
The Museum below features some great Artwork and statues but you feel rushed since there are so many tourists.

Try to visit this when there are not so many visitors as, otherwise, they will make your visit less enjoyable.

The temple grounds itself is not as big as expected, but still very worth the visit if you are in Uji.
General entry is 700¥ and another 300¥ to enter the Phoenix Hall. There was a queue to enter Byodo-in during the weekend. There is also a museum located within the area.
Two types of Goshuins are available for 300¥. Due to it being a weekend, each person was only allowed to pick 1 type.

We paid a visit on May 12, 2024. The Phoneix Hall, erected in 1053, is a world-historic landmark located in the middle of the pond. The phoneix hall houses a 2.4-meter Buddha that was created over a thousand years ago.Adults will have to pay 700 and 300 yen, respectively, to access the Byodo-in and Phoneix halls. There is a time limit for entering the phoneix hall, and only a limited number of guests are permitted at one time.

To avoid disappointment, it is recommended that you go to the phoneix hall first before exploring the compound. You could also visit the museum and tea room. It is well worth a visit.

This is the most beautiful temple and world heritage site that I have been to. It is so well preserved you would think it was built recently and not the 11th century! There’s a museum as well with Buddhist statues that just bring tears to your eyes because of the beauty of the work. I could swear I heard mantras being chanted as I walked through the grounds and looked at the statues. Tickets can be easily bought up front with no waiting time. This place seems to be underrated as crowds were scarce, mostly there were a lot of locals. It is so serene and worth a detour to Uji for.

This temple was a truly wonderful discovery during our visit to Uji. While we initially came to Uji for the famous matcha, this temple ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. It offered a magical, peaceful, and calming atmosphere.

The expansive garden was brimming with life, boasting a variety of trees and bushes. The temple itself, surrounded by water, was truly breathtaking. You can even get a traditional Gochin here!

The temple is incredible, with a beautiful garden and a pretty extensive museum. I recommend going around the time it opens, it gives you space to take it all in. Also, there is no line for the goshuin in the morning.

The museum has a great collection that showcases some original items belonging to different parts of the temple and is a nice addition to the whole experience.

Must visit if you ever come to Uji. And if possible, come during autumn! Very lovely place that is the same temple shown on the 10 yen coin. Very nice place to take a walk.

Different exits lead to different area and be careful not to go out the wrong way as re-entry not permitted and it’s a long walk to get to the other exit. It’s a big temple!

The place was beautiful. We really wanted to go here since this temple was on the 10 yen coin, and we really wanted to see it in person. There were many people, especially foreigners.

The ten cent temple. Very serene area with a street selling Uji matcha prior to reaching it. The tour took about a hour, if you take time to read the historical notes.

The temple is beautiful to look at, even without going inside the Phoenix Hall, and the grounds are a lovely place for a stroll. My favourite part was actually the museum - it was interesting and the architecture was super impressive. If you're planning a trip to Uji, definitely add this to the itinerary.

The temple is in the 10 coin Yen and the other one at the back of a 1000 Yen bill. Visit the garden and the museum. Have some peace during the visit. Must go in Uji.

Japanese phoenix came from here in Byodoin. If you are the collector of coins, you may know that Japanese yen has the design of the phoenix, and it came from here. Historical place! Amazing museum, too. Not only visitors but also many Japanese come visit here. There will be two separate tickets. One for entrance of the park. And another one for entrance of the temple in Byodoin. So please make sure of it when you come here.

It was a wonderful experience seeing that wonderful temple you can see on the 10 yen coin. Not a temple I would visit again deliberately but it is a great addition to my Japan core memories.

Beautiful scenic historical sight. We have a replica in HI and it was amazing to see. In today (including entrance to the temple was 900 yen. They also have a unique tea room that was interesting to experience.

***Must see tourist spot*** BEAutiful place. If you have any change in your pocket look at the back of the ten cent yen. The building on the coin is at this park. Also if you have the old 10000 paper yen money. The back of it has the phoneix bird.

I enter from the South gate so no queue.
Its exactly like the 10 yen picture and the bird like the 10k yen picture.

If u want enter the Phoenix Hall to see the Amita Buddha, then pay extra later in front of the Phoenix hall, there is a tour guide later but speak in Japanese, they will give u a brochure for the explanation.

There is a museum & souvenir inside too (no extra fee).

The temple is easy to Access from Uji station. At the main gate there are a lot of matcha stores.. have Starbuck too.

The temple was so pretty!
We also bought the tickets to go inside to see the budda as well.
I would recommend this to anyone that like history but also stopping by in Uji for tea.
