Was not so keen with bakeries until now. They had a huge varieties of different delicious bakeries goods. Most people tend to get the freshly baked, but for those who know better, those in the refrigerator section are among the best they offer.
They also sells sandwich of top tier ingredients, which match the high price.
Overall the best bakery shop I ever had in japan

I LOVE this bakery!!! The first time I went, I was shocked at how long the lineup was, and at the fact that they have two parking lots and a parking lot attendant, but after trying their breads, I totally see why! My favorite was the chocolate castella bread, SO GOOD!!!! I make it a priority to stop by here when I’m in the Kansai area. Only con is how busy they are (I waited 30+ minutes in line. This was during New Year’s week so it was probably extra busy). It’s a 5-10 minute walk from Obaku station, taking the JR Nara Line.

It's been said it is one of the best bakery in Kyoto, and I have to say...darn right!
I'll strongly recommend their curry bread and maybe...everything else.
Just remember that Tamakitei is really famous and there will be a lot of customers, so be sure to come early.

freshly made bakeries. don't be surprised if there's long queue, because their products are very good (and in a reasonable price too). very recommended!

I'm from America and have been living in Japan for 4 years now. As much as I love Japanese bread and pastries, there has always been a bit of homesickness for the taste of good American bread. I found that taste here. Their use of real butter and the mix of ingredients they use give their bread a distinct taste of home for me that is both addictive and nostalgic.

The absolute best bakery I have been to in Japan. Authentic European style and very high quality. I always go when I am in town. Highly recommend. Go early, as things can run out and lines can get long. Try the savory and the sweet, both are amazing. Artisans at work!!! 🖤

Maybe the best bread maker in Kyoto area. It has baguettes and some other European bread, but the best consists of several round shaped bread with lots of filling inside. The choice is large, and quality is high. Enjoy!

The 4.3 star rating is indeed trustworthy. Some of the best bread I have had after living in Kyoto for almost 8 years.

Tamakitei is simply the best bread shop we have in Kyoto area. It's actually in a city called Uji. The kind of bread I like the most is some kind of stuffed panino-like bread. Usually there's a long line, but it deserves it.

Delicious fresh bread, croissant, pretzels and other baked foods here. I like to shop here on my way home. But sometimes it is closed, so check the work hours before you go.

One of the best bakeries in Kyoto in spite of the location is far away from the centre. I used to love and come here very much when I didn't need to queue outside.

Honestly one of the best bakeries I have ever been in my life and yet the best in Japan.
Pitty that it is not open everyday

Go on a weekday, and try some of the interesting items. If you go on a weekend, it’s way too crowded, and it you have to wait to get inside. The items are pretty tasty though!

So glad I took the time to come out this way (was only in Japan briefly for a holiday). The curry pan and croissants were incredible.
