Very accessible shrine to visit in Fukuoka. Not as crowded as other famous shrines in Tokyo and you could still walk around and have your own space. Very well decorated but doesn’t seem like a tourist destination. I guess Fukuoka is just a more quiet and peaceful city.

Beautiful shrine. I visited past 3am on New Year's day. The shrine was bustling with street stalls and (mainly) Japanese people undergoing their first shrine visit of the year, as is customary.

Well, to me personally is the most impressive shrine in Fukuoka. Recommended to visit it as it is important part of cultural religious heritage of Hakata.

Cherry blossoms have arrived (07.03) at this lovely temple steps away from shopping streets and popular restaurants. Compact yet offers everything & always peaceful.

Beautiful shrine within walking distance from Hakata Station. Was surprise to see blooming sakura? before the official season. Lots of tourist groups would stop by in the morning so may want to avoid if you want a less crowded experience.

Historic shrine that plays key part in Fukuoka festival. Frequented by locals and tourists due to central location. You have to pass through the mouth opening then admire the working shrine inside.

It was quite crowded during my visit. There was a jujitsu competion at that time. The place is so big. There are so many places you can visit. I spent around 2 hours only on this place haha. It's nearby the Hakatamachiya Furusatokan (Traditional Folk Museum). It's a good place for sightseeing

It is very close to both traditional market and cannal city hakata, so I couldn't miss this shrine. This place wasn't huge but still had lots of beautiful buildings and interesting things. I am glad that I stopped by this place. You won't regret visiting here. I highly recommend it.

Kushida Shrine is located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, Japan. It is an ancient shrine dating back to 757 CE. It is considered by the local people of Hakata to be the guardian shrine of Hakata, and the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is held at Kushida Shrine from July 1 to 15 each year.

This festival is a must-see event for those visiting Fukuoka. The shrine also has beautiful floats that can be admired all year round. At night when the shrine is illuminated, Kushida Shrine looks truly stunning, making it worth visiting both during the day and at night. Kushida Shrine is an unmissable sight in Fukuoka.

Beautiful shrine. Went there on weekends, so there's a long queue to pray.

Kushida Shrine, a Shinto shrine, created from year AD 757, has its beauty and greatness with simplicity and tranquility in design.

The Shrine has Zodiac Ehoban or Zodiac Sign hung on the ceiling of the entrance gate.

Its Kazari Yamakasa, 山笠, is on permanent display at the courtyard all year round [except June], which is full of traditional Japanese artist techniques, skills, and colors. A Yamakasa for Japanese folk religious practice is a portable shrine to carry a deity during a festival. Then, there are two types: the Kazari yamakasa (decorated floats) and Kaki yamakasa (carried floats for worships and riutals).

The Shrine is free for entrance, and it is popular with tourists and visitors who are in Hakata area for shopping in Gion section.

Planned to bike here from my hostel in Hakata. Good thing I parked in front of a mall a few blocks away from the shrine as there was no parking space near the temple. Small and narrow entrance but very spacious and quiet inside the temple grounds. They have these two towering display of colorful characters, adorned with intricate details.

A nice little shrine located near the Tenjin area of Fukuoka. Getting here is very convenient as there is a metro station dedicated to the shrine and it's just a short 2 minute walk from the metro exit to the shrine. They offer a few shrines you can pray to. Just remember to wash your hands when you enter at the well that has the wooden ladles. If you don't know how to wash, just spoon water over your left hand with the ladle, then over to your right and you'll be fine. Some locals will even drink a sip of the water, but as a tourist you don't really need to. After praying to the shrines you can offer up 100 yen to the fortune box and take a fortune with a language you are comfortable with. It's also located very close to Canal City and a shopping street, so you can also do some shopping in the area if you'd like.

Has a cool yamakasa on display. I love in Japan how these shrines are tucked away into the city blocks.
