Fantastic! The rooms were amazing and the views of the river made the stay really worth the price.

The service was also amazing. I asked to call a taxi to take me to the JR Line when I was leaving, and they said they wouldn't be able to do it, so the hotel owner would take me there for free!

The breakfast (I only got the basic, not full) was also good, very Japanese, and especially healthy. The dining area had a great atmosphere with another view of the river.

The only downside is some parts of the location. The view is great and is one of the best parts of the hotel, but the hotel is pretty far from the sightseeing spots in Kyoto.

Also, being next to the river, there were a LOT of bugs (which they mention in the notes when you check in). Some of them are quite big and fly. This wasn't a big deal the first night I stayed (2 nights total) as long as I didn't open the balcony door, but I think house keeping might have accidentally let some in, because the second night, there were several hard-to-kill, big, and flying insects in the room.

Our first ryokan experience (and first stop in Japan), it was truly something special. We opted for an upgraded room option with separate bedroom and spa tub - highly recommend! The staff was so nice and helpful. It is a 12-15min walk to the train station but we enjoyed walking through town, lots of great restaurants - the town does seem to close early - as long as you plan for that the location is amazing. We wanted to switch it up after staying in Seoul and before heading to Tokyo, it’s a welcomed change of pace and fully immersive experience. They have a new rooftop bar open on Fridays and Saturdays (all you can drink for 1 hour at $14USD!!!) - it’s so beautiful we wished it was open more! We scheduled in-room massages that were excellent. We felt so relaxed it was hard to leave, however, we felt our 3 nights was perfect for checking out Uji & Kyoto. Loved this unique experience, would love to come back!

Absolutely gorgeous space that was a beacon of rest in the middle of a beautiful family trip.

The room was absolutely perfect and spacious for a family of four. We experienced the hotels onsen which left us refreshed and ready to tackle the remainder of our trip.

Finally, the staff was amazing. They went above and beyond, specifically when we left a bag in the taxi. My wife left her purse in the taxi we ordered when leaving the hotel. I called them and the staff immediately reached out to the taxi company and secures her bag, had the taxi drive her purse back to the location, and allowed us to pick up the purse within a 30 minute turnaround. Simply amazing staff.

Thank you for the incredible and restful stay. Looking forward to visiting again when we return to Uji!

I recently stayed at this hotel in Uji, Kyoto and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel is located in a truly beautiful spot. The peaceful and quiet surroundings allowed for a relaxing stay, and the views were absolutely stunning. I particularly enjoyed the nearby matcha, which was some of the best I've ever tasted.

In addition to the great location, there are so many shrines to visit nearby, making it a perfect place for those who want to immerse themselves in the local culture. However, I would advise being cautious towards sundown as bugs can be quite rampant in the area. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a peaceful and culturally rich getaway in Kyoto.

This place is good for you who are tired of the places with many people. Good place to relax. The staffs are nice, and they're trying to help me with english. The room was so cool! They provided the yukata in the room. The room is facing the river so you can see a beautiful view from your room's veranda while relaxing with hot green tea.

Great service from the moment our taxi pulled up. They helped us unload our luggage, put our shoes away (change to slippers) and brought our luggage up to our room after showing us to our room. There was a spider in our room but they promptly helped us get rid of it. Room is spacious, and has a gorgeous view. We went out for a walk around Uji soon after and they prepared our futons. Check out was smooth (10am) and they held our luggage for two hours while we shopped. I enjoyed my stay :)

The ryokan was an incredible experience. We had the five-person room with private onsen with an amazing view over the river. Some still preferred the public baths, but the private bath was still refreshing. The traditional meals were interesting and delicious, though one of my friends couldn't eat everything as he has a fish allergy. They do have other options though, so we ended up booking a steak dinner, which was also excellent. Uji is a wonderful, relaxing place, though if you want to get to Kyoto, expect it to take a bit of time. The staff is very English-friendly and was very attentive to our needs.

Good sized traditional Ryokan rooms, it makes you feel like you're in a different century. Vending machine available in the hotel. Breakfast and dinner was amazing, very traditional and different types of food were served. A good idea can be a walk at 5 am to see the sunrise. An amazing place who wants to experience the countryside Japan.

First time trying a ryokan and it was a great experience. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We were given matcha and matcha snacks to try which were a plus. There was a little sunroom/porch behind the sleeping area where you overlook the beautiful Uji River. The breakfast was very simple yet elaborate as it comes with many small dishes.

Location wise, it's around a 15 minute walk from the station so it's fairly convenient. There are many stores around that sell matcha goods; keep in mind though that the shops close very early. Also not far away is the Byodo-in temple which is also a nice place to visit.

Pretty nice place, I would say what makes it so unique is that the surroundings are very old and traditional. If you have a chance to go out and around the area for a walk it can be very relaxing. The staff are polite and speak English well so it's very tourist friendly!
