Okinawa Prefectural Museum is a lovely museum! Admission fee is required and for visitors who are interested in visiting the Art Museum, a separate admission fee will be charged.

The museum is not big and consists of one level but is very informative. It was an enjoyable visit and all the displays in the museum were very well done! The museum was very clean, organized, and quiet. A dinosaur fossil can be seen at the entrance of the museum. There is also a souvenir shop and a good place to buy gifts & local arts & crafts items.

Small and cozy museum but you can learn and enjoy it a lot. I recommend visiting this place first to learn about Okinawa’s history before having a tour of the Island.
The History about learning the Kingdom of Ryuku is really insightful and can take over 1h to learn.
Also, I recommend installing the free audio guide apps called “On The Trip” which is really useful with provided in multiple languages.
Temporary exhibitions might be changed regularly. You better check if you're interested in what they do when you visit.

Educational museums for bringing kids to visit. E-tickets available oversea with a discount. You could exchange it at the booth. Rich exhibition rooms, so please allocate at least two hours to fully tour the space.

There are 2 exhibitions to choose from, so there are 2 ticket prices, or you can buy 2 at one price and get a little discount. I chose to visit the Traditional Okinawa Museum side because I didn't have much time. At this time, there is an exhibition on the other side of the art, flowers, paintings. Anyone who has time to visit here can try to choose.

Traveling to the Museum by Monorail takes an 8-9 minute walk.

Nice art and history museum. I thought it was worth the cost. The tickets can only be purchased with cash but the gift shop accepts credit cards. The art side was an interesting collection of Okinawa artists and the history side had many exhibits.

Nice double museum, Art and History. You can by a combined ticket. About 60-90 minutes for each side. Make sure to get the museum audio guide because it is very well done. Overall, a nice way to spend 2-3 hours. Recommend!

*Incredibly* informative exhibit about the history of the former Ryukyu Kingdom up through postwar Okinawa. I could’ve spent the entire day in the permanent collection alone. I only wish there was more on the folklore and culture of the Ryukyu/Okinawan people, and less about more commonly known postwar history.

Great to understand the history of Ryukyu and its relationship with neighbours like mainland Japan, Taiwan and the Ming/Qing dynasties.

If you also visited the Churaumi Aquarium, make sure you keep the ticket or a picture of it. You will get discount for the museum entrance fee.

Came here recently with a friend to bask in the history of Okinawa. We stayed until closing. In a convenient location with a Lawson’s across the street, San-A on the other side all stores within vicinity of each other there is also a huge park behind the museum. Took a bunch of photos but some I cannot display them here.

What a wonderful combination of a historical and anthropological museum as well as post-war art museum rolled into one. The tickets allow you to select which galleries you want to go to, and I highly recommend The permanent historical exhibit on the first floor as well as the exhibit of work from the collection in the art area. I also had lunch at the cafe, and their vegetarian sandwich was delicious, along with the lassi.

Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Gallery *** must visit ***
Another place you cannot miss when you visit Okinawa. A half day visit to the museum will allow you to have a quick glimpse into the history and culture of the island.

To help you to learn about the exhibit, please remember to get an audio guide from the counter. It will great enhanced your experience. It has different languages English, Japanese, Chinese Mandarin, Korean. Well worth the effort.

It has a huge display area, it is advisable to spend at least half a day here. If you wish to visit the art gallery too, then maybe it is good to spend a day here.

If you are tired you can always go for a break at the café within the museum. Otherwise there is Mall nearby, walking distance, in which there is a food court where you get some food and drink and rest.

Better than expected! very kids friendly, Many exhibiting items are "playable", usually it's hard to keep children inside a museum, and make them enjoyable, this is definitely an exception! One of thereasons we would like to visit okinawa again, is this museum.

Took the fam here this weekend and the kids actually enjoyed themselves. A lot to view and exhibits to walk through and fairly cheap. Good experience. There’s also a display board you can get of the museum which has it mapped out and you can tap on the board to listen to certain historical content.
