Sumpu Castle Park

Went to the park that has Tokugawa Ieyasu statue and his orange groves. Was very impressed and nice to make his acquaintance. I traveled to Shizuoka and have learned a lot in the last two days and having a guide helped because I was able to go to all the places of interest that I wanted to experience. Took many pictures of trees and the moat area as well. Shizuoka is an interesting place and everyone should visit this place at least once in their life.

The castle itself is long gone, but has the gatehouse and large grounds. The hana matsuri was in full flow when I was there. The place looked at its best. The only downside was that the rubbish bins were inadequate for the festival; consequently, there were huge piles of litter heaped around them.

Relaxing .a MUST see in the list !

The castle grounds are now replaced by a nice and relaxing park. Nonetheless a lot of castle remains can be found throughout the park. In the big park signs are everywhere to make sure you will not get lost.
The park itself is very peaceful and nicely set up. It is also used for all kind of public activities.
One has to pay to enter the Sumpu Castle Park though (Adults ¥360, children less) as well as additionally fees if you wish to visit one or both of the reconstructed turrets.

Exploring this park, where the remnants of a Japanese castle once stood, was a unique experience blending history and modernity in a delightful way.

While it's true that there aren't many original castle structures left, the park's creators have done an admirable job of crafting a beautiful and serene environment. They've ingeniously integrated modern elements with the historical backdrop.

I recommend this park to those looking for a tranquil escape with a touch of history, even if it's a modern interpretation. A lovely place to visit!

Nice place to walk around while visiting Shizuoka. The garden area is nice and the admission fees are reasonable if you want to go inside the buildings. The staff have instructions for purchasing tickets in English if necessary.

A good place to walk around and learn some historical information about Shizuoka City. If you love oden, you must try the Oden shop inside the castle, it's bussin 💯 A group of pigeon is also present, it was really fun to play with them. 😊

The park surrounding the former Sunpu Castle is such a beautiful place and right in the center of the city! They have a lot of informations boards where you can read up the history in English as well as in Japanese. The park offers a good view of the prefectural government office building and the re-built part of the castle looks amazing as well. I can highly recommend visiting here!

The Hitsujisaru turret is a nice piece of history that drew me in initially, but the park is beautiful on its own. It doesn't have too much in terms of attractions, but there's​ plenty of open space for kids to play and is great for a walk when the sun is shining.

Very nice park. Attended the Shizuoka Festival. Nice event with lots of Japanese cultures.

Oasis of calm, not much left of original structures, but still not bad for a stroll around.

Many people playing pokemon go, the castle was burned long ago but you can see the park maybe better on spring

I visited the place during spring time. You will definitely love the place. Events, food stalls, cosmo characters are available for photos. No fees for the entrance and taking photos of the characters.

They have couple of activities here, this golden week they had pinic, cultural festival and film showing! I really enjoyed my time here

This is a very nice place to hang out on a Saturday, learning some traditional crafts & exploring the various hand made items available.

I was expecting a Castle ruins. But what I saw is a beautifully decorated garden. Some of gard towers reconstructed. If you want to have nice enjoyable time with that family, have pik nik this would be a great place. Recently some excavation is going on about a place inside, not sure weather it is castle. Hope to visit it again.

Nice park friendly for visitors. Playgrounds, benches, series of ponds, shade of trees.Very wide area for walking around. During hanami season people don't hesitate to seat on the grass. View of the ancient castle is lighted up in the evening.

If you are a castle lover, it’s a must to visit this park which the excavation of ruined Sunpu castle tower site is on the way.
