Beautiful temple at any season, but best to visit during autumn or hydrangea blooms.
Wear good shoes as you'll be "hiking" most of the areas to see. There's also a quiet prayer hall under the pagoda.

I visited this temple for the Ajisai Matsuri. I was really impressed with the walking trails. There are 88 stone statues around the trails, it feel like a small hike with beautiful green and flowers around . You can even climb up to the observatory spot to have a city view. Will definitely come back in autumn for koyo.

Such an relaxing place. Every time when I visit Tokyo, I stop by here and take a walk around this area. It's near Takahata station and you can find lots of places to eat and rest as well.
This temple associates Shinsengumi, it was a family temple of Toshizo Hijikata. He and his friends use to gather at the temple before they departing to Kyoto.
Its history is quite old.
It says it's originally built around 8th century, and reconstructed in 14th century. So some materials are possibly placed in 14th century.

We went to this place for the flea market, didn't know how big or beautiful the temple was going to be. We were so pleasantly impressed, the temple area is reall big and it is extremely beautiful. We are planning to go again to see more of the temple, 2 hrs of flea market and site seeing were not enough

I visited the temple and I was impressed with the beauty of the temples and how peaceful this place is . One temple was made with no even one nailed.

Stumbled upon this place quite by accident after randomly stopping here after seeing it from the southbound monorail from Tachikawa. The 5-storey pagoda is magnificent but also the wild hydrangeas that were beginning to bloom along the trails leading up to the hill behind it equally so.

Simply stunning... If you're a tourist to Tokyo, make sure to come out of the central city and cost aces like this... It's a relief from the constant Hustle and bustle of the city... The mind bogglingly beautiful architecture, the winding paths leading up the hill, overlooking the graveyard, and the general stillness and beauty should not be missed. Do yourself a favour and hope on the express train on the Keio line from Shinjuku... You'll be glad you did.

If you love hydrangea in June, you must visit Takahata Fudoson Kongoji Temple a 40min ride on the Keio line from Shinjuku station. The temple grounds are well laid out and maintained and the five tier wooden pagoda is spectacular. Their hydrangea festival runs most of June and is absolutely gorgeous - well worth a visit!

Beautiful to go at the opening of a new year. If you hike up the footpath in the back of the shrine you can see a clear view of Mt. Fuji

This is one of the three well-known Kanto Fudo temples. It has a short hiking course with 88 replicas of Ohenro (pilgrimage) places along the Shikoku. It also has a statue of Toshizo Hijikata who is one of the most famous characters in Shinsengumi. A good place as an afternoon trip to get away from downtown Tokyo craziness.
