Wonderful during cherry blossom season. Old and huge trees - felt like a jungle of cherry blossom trees surrounding me. Keep in mind that you should visit this place in the daytime since this park only has basic park lights. The inner area which is the Castle is in construction for now so you can only see the gates.

Wonderful place for cherry blossom viewing. There are plenty of people but one is still able to have a leisurely walk. Even outside of sakura season, the park is a good place to go to for some quiet time and to relax.

I came here for the sakura photo shooting and I think this place is great for it. A lot of sakura trees are surrounding you. You can easy shoot nice photo in a sunny day. And a night, they arranged for night sakura as well. They put heavy lighting equipments around and you can take photo there easily.

Nice park but unfortunately that Sendai Castle has gone otherwise it will be more beautiful. Walking in winter is really nice with cold temperature!

Your 20min walk from JR Yamagata Station to Kajo Park will be paid off by the stunning Sakura! Taking Yamagata Shinkansen Tsubasa (山形新幹線つばさ in Japanese), this high speed bullet train will bring you from Tokyo to Yamagata Station within 3 hours. There is a castle located in the park but is not that extravagant compared with other famous ones such as the Nagoya Castle in Central Japan. I spent the entire day in Kajo Park just for hanami (flower viewing; 花見 in Japanase) and of course, shooting pictures. In addition to the abundant Yoshino sakura trees, you can also locate several Shidare sakura (smaller trees with thin branches and very pink flowers) around the castle.

Beautiful park in central Yamagata City. There are remains of Kajo, Yamagata's castle. The park is currently undergoing restoration and is worth a visit.

This park is really quiet. If you're looking for a place to just enjoy Sakura in spring, this is the best place to go in Yamagata

Nice large park for walks and bicycle rides. The public toilet facilities were modern and you could easily see many sakura trees from the pathway. Parking is free too.

This place is so special. Not sure if it's worth it as a tourist destination. This park is a part of a lot of people's commute and walking here around sunset is an enjoyable way to experience a slice of local life. During the day there is a woman who practices flute by the castle. If you are there at the right season, you can observe some outrageous crow roosting behavior. During the summer they have "Radio Taiso" at 6:30AM throughout the park. I hear the cherry blossoms are stunning in the Spring! Oh, almost forgot to mention the beautifully creepy medical museum.

Really big park with many different things to see. Multiple moats and loads of different trees (I guess Sakura, plum and others). You can see the foundation from the ruined castle. There are many different buildings in the park too, from historical to current municipal structures.

This place welcome me with a full bloom of sakura. So during this time it is the best to come. There are several museum s inside and nearby. Some are free. But the city itself has nothing much to offer but combine it with Yamadera or Kaminoyama Onsen will be worth the trip. Just my share of information. But without Sakura I will probably give it 3,5 stas.

Kajo parkisiotated on 35.9 hectares in the cen ter of Yamagata city. The perk grounds were previously the site of Yamagata Castle.
It is said that Shiba Kaneyori. who came to Ushu (which modern-day yamagata city was part of) as a feudal commissioner.built the castle in 1365.Theoriginal bastion was built by Mogami Yoshiaki(1546-1614). the 11th iord of the Mogami family. The castle was called Kasumigajo (MistyCastle). it got its name in the wake of the fierce Hasedo battle which was fought more than five kilometersaway. The castle could not be seen because of the mist which rose from one of the most advanced three-ring moat systems of the time. This mistsaved the castle from being conquered. The middle moat and stone walls which remain were rebuilt in 1622 by Torii Tadamasa. lord of the castle at thattime.Yamagata Castle was designated as a national historic site in 1986. in 2006. The castle was acknowledged by the japan Castle Foundation to be oneof the top 100 castles in japan.
Kajo park is now a famous tourist site. Cherry blossom viewing in spspringtime is especially popular.
