Kawaguchiko Museum of Art

The Kawaguchiko Museum of Art is a must-visit when traveling to Lake Kawaguchi in Japan. Located next to the lake, the museum showcases many art pieces with Mount Fuji as the main theme. They have permanent exhibitions as well as planned exhibitions and events such as the Mount Fuji Photo Exhibition. The museum is open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm and is closed on Tuesdays. Admission fees range from 500 yen for middle and high school students to 800 yen for adults and university students. Spending an hour here is a great way to appreciate the art and photography featuring Mount Fuji.

A Japanese style building, clear, open and beautiful.

A must do on a day in Kawaguchiko - whether raining or not! It's so peaceful and serene, with a real mix of Japanese traditional and modern art, with some stunning photography of Fujisan. Fantastic gift shop, too. Would highly recommend.

It’s a small museum with a great view. I visited when there was a Mucha exhibition and loved it. They have some lovely photos and art of Mt Fuji here as well.

I want to give 4 stars because there is no English information in the museum. That’s a shame for tourists. I Google translated the captions on my phone. The museum is really more of a gallery which seems to be dedicated to art associated with Fujisan, and there is also an extensive photographic collection of Fujisan-esque mountain images taken across Japan which are lovely to see.

Right now there is an exhibition of the female form in Japanese contemporary art, which is what gives my rating 5 stars. I wonder if it’s permanent, as it’s so incredibly fitting considering the spirit of Fujisan is a goddess. This was my favourite part.
